Socks are among the most needed items at homeless shelters, yet among the least-often donated. According to the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, in Nassau and Suffolk counties alone, just under 3,000 people were homeless or in transitional/emergency housing in 2017. This year the CDOS students from the Floyd Academy put together a campaign to help the homeless by having the students donate NEW socks. Students can participate by bringing socks for men, women, and children to the High School Main Office and place the new socks in our bin. Our goal is to help spread warmth to the homeless before the cold weather.
Do you need help filling out your college applications? Please join us for Apps and Snacks in the Senior Café on Tuesday, December 4. The counselors will be assisting and guiding you on your college process. If you are interested, you must sign up in the Counseling Center. Light snacks will be provided.
After school math regents prep is a great opportunity to brush up on your skills for your upcoming regents in January and June. Algebra 1 regents review will be in Room 306 and geometry regents review will be in Room 417 today.
It is starting to get cold out and some students and staff may be in need of a warm coat. The Cosmetology students are sponsoring an on-going coat drive. Our motto: Have a Coat, Leave a Coat. Need a Coat, take a Coat. The coat rack is located by the South Lobby.

Attention all athletes on a winter sports team: The winter athletic sticker meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 28 during the Extra Help period (1:35 – 2:10) in the West Gym. Attendance by all student-athletes and coaches is mandatory and all must bring their WFHS ID cards. Please see your coach if you have any questions.
Do you excel in science? Are you looking for scholarship opportunities along with community service? Science Honor Society will be holding a mandatory introductory meeting on Tuesday, December 4 from 2:10-3:10 in Room 254. Applications and program requirements will be discussed.
On Monday, November 19 the William Floyd Mock Trial Team won the Suffolk County Championship of the Mentor Tournament at the Federal Courthouse in Central Islip. This tournament is conducted by Judge Joseph Bianco and other Federal judges. Students are asked to argue a Constitutional issue as if the student was making an oral argument to the United States Supreme Court. In preliminary rounds all the Floyd lawyers distinguished themselves. The judges said they awarded very high scores to the Floyd lawyers on the quality of their presentations. In the regional finals, Floyd lost narrowly to an excellent Massapequa team. Everyone on the Floyd team impressed in this competition. Congratulations to all!
Future Business Leaders of America is working with the March of Dimes to promote awareness of the increasing rate of premature births in the United States. Join us in wearing purple or white on Wednesday, November 28 to signify our unity in this cause. FBLA members will be selling purple roses in the Rotunda during lunch periods. Also, FBLA members have a meeting Wednesday, November 28 in the Rotunda LGI at 2:15pm.
Do you need Community Service hours? You can earn 4 hours by volunteering to help at Parent/Teacher conferences this Thursday, November 29. The hours are 4:30pm to 8:30pm. You must pick up a permission slip in the 2 West office as soon as possible.
