Today marks the 22nd National Day of Silence, a day where we recognize the historical “silence” of the LGBT community. Today, certain designated members of our Gay-Straight Alliance will be participating in the Day of Silence, and they will be carrying slips of paper to show to teachers and staff to explain their silence. These students understand that it may be necessary for them to speak if absolutely necessary for academic purposes. All of us can honor the Day of Silence in our own way, such as: staying silent at lunch; keeping silent on social media for the day: meditating for 15 minutes…During your silence, just remember those who have had to keep silent because of who they are.
