Hispanic Heritage month is from September 15 to October 15th. Today, we recognize Antonia Novello, originally from Puerto Rico, who made history as the first Hispanic woman to serve as Surgeon General of the United States. Throughout her career, she focused on public health issues such as smoking, AIDS, and children's health, becoming a role model for women in medicine.
Attention all 12th Graders and Early Graduates: The college application and career planning season is upon us! Now through December 5th, your school counselor will be conducting senior conference meetings during the school day. During this meeting, your counselor will review your academic record and discuss your college and career goals. Please come to the counseling center to make your appointment.
Need help completing your college applications? Sign up for College Application Week from October 20th through October 31st, during periods 3 through 8. School Counselors will be assisting you in completing applications for early and regular deadlines, on-site and more. You can sign up in the Counseling Center or speak to your School Counselor for more information. Spots are limited, so don’t miss out!
Attention all Students: Need help with study skills, organization, time management or goal setting? Come down to the Counseling Center to sign up and learn more about this great opportunity offered during extra help on Tuesdays.
Attention Seniors: Class Rank and Transcripts are now available in the Counseling Center. If you would like a copy of your Unofficial Transcript with Class Rank, please stop by the Counseling Center during your lunch period, before school, or after school. If you need your counselor to send an Official Transcript to a college or university, remember to fill out a transcript request form. Be aware of your Early Decision and Early Action deadlines.
Are you passionate about English? The National English Honor Society is now accepting applications! If you are interested, ask your English teacher for an application. The deadline to apply is today, Friday, October 10th.
Book Club will meet Wednesday, October 15th, in room 203. Start bringing in your holiday shelf decorations.
Are you Interested in Military Service? The free “Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery” (as-vab) for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students, is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15th, 9:00a-12:00p (periods 3-6) in the LGI. Sign up for the ASVAB in the main office ASAP. The test results facilitate career planning, regardless of students’ post-secondary plans. There will be a Post Test Interpretation (PTI) for career planning on Tuesday, October 21st, during extra help in the LGI.
Attention Juniors and Seniors: SUNY Farmingdale will be holding an information session on Friday, October 17th. If you are interested in finding out more about SUNY Farmingdale, this is the opportunity for you! You can register for this event in the Counseling Center, spots are limited, so don’t wait!
National Honor Society Applications are available in the main office, guidance and online for any 10th - 12th grade students who have a GPA of 90 or better and meet other requirements. Applications are due October 17th. Please see one of the Advisors in room 142 or 206 for more information.
Attention Seniors: Prestige Portraits will be back at William Floyd High School on Monday, October 20th, for one additional and final photo session. This will be the last opportunity to schedule your senior portrait session at the school and your last opportunity to have your senior photo in the yearbook. Don’t wait – schedule that appointment today.
