Gynecology and Obstetric

The Obstetrics and Gynecology department is located on the second floor of the medical college.

The department employs 8 board certified doctors and 2 MRCOG qualified members who are all part of the permanent teaching staff.

They teach obstetrics practically and theoretically to the year fours, gynecology to the year fives and both to the year six students of Sulaimani medical college.

All staff is part of the teaching program for the postgraduate Iraqi, Arabic and Kurdish board students. The department employees all participate in the continuous academic development (CAD) teaching that takes place in the Maternity teaching hospital, once weekly.

All doctors also work for the Ministry of health, they run outpatient clinics, emergency department, labor wards and perform major and minor operations. This allows the students to have a good opportunity to train properly in those areas. The department also has one postgraduate Arabic board student, who helps with teaching and training the undergraduate students of the 4th, 5th and 6th years.

For the practical teaching of the year four, they have 3 weeks training ended with a practical exam of what they have been taught. The year five have a 3 weeks course that also ends in an end of course exam. The year six has a 6-week intensive course, with no theoretical lessons. The course is a review of the obstetric and gynecological subjects practically, they also have a logbook, which they have to fill with practical tasks that are required of them throughout the 6 weeks, and they are graded on the logbook and a practical exam at the end of the course.
