Introducing Hub Whitu (7) teachers

Introducing Hub Waru (8) teachers

Dear Parents/Whanau,

A warm welcome back to you all and a special welcome to our families who are new to Stonefields School. We are also delighted to welcome our new teachers to both Hub 7 and 8. We are excited to form our new teams and hit the ground running with authentic and fun learning for our tamariki.

We are certainly excited that both Hub 7 and 8 learning hubs are beside each other allowing us to be physically in one big space. This is going to allow the 6 teachers to collaborate together to deliver a high quality learning programme that will cater for all learning needs. The learners will meet in their guardian groups at least twice a day. Parents and learners are welcome to walk through both hubs as learning will look similar across the space.

We have professional development meetings on Thursday mornings so teachers will be unavailable for meetings with parents. These meetings usually run until 8.45am.

This term we are stepping into a context of ‘Magical Me’ to get to know our learners and their whanau.

We look forward to continuing to communicate with you and our exciting year ahead.

Concept Learning

With some quality collaboration and deep thinking we have planned for a concept where we are getting to know our learners, their passions and interests through creating a magical kingdom where there sits a ‘magical me’. We would like to celebrate this learning with learners coming dressed up as a mythical creature that resonates with what makes them magical and why? This will be held on Wednesday, 27 February 2019. We will send another reminder closer to the time.

Brainfood Snack

Some of you will be familiar with our Brainfood snack and how it helps our learners to remain focused during learning time and get the most out of that time. We will have a brainfood snack, which learners will eat around 10am every day. This is optional not compulsory. It gives our learners an opportunity to have a quick snack while they are learning.

So this doesn’t compromise learning time and become a break we are asking for learners to bring in a vegetable or piece of fruit which is preferably sliced or peeled, wrapped separately or in a container, which is named.

Learners will bring it into the hub before school and it will be placed in their labeled guardian group container. As we are a rubbish free school. Could food wrappers please be kept at home, or snacks be brought into a named container. Brain food is vital for children during their learning. Lollies, muffins and treats need to be left at home please. Thank you for your support with this.

Swimming

Water safety is part of the New Zealand curriculum and swimming will be happening in Weeks Six (week commencing March 11th) and Seven (week commencing March 18th) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.

We will require all swimming items to be clearly labelled including all uniform items, as things can easily be misplaced or accidentally picked up when items are not labelled.

The Health Organisation refers to 'smart snacking' to help people feel more energised and to support with concentration and memory.

General Housekeeping

Reading Books

Readers will come home in the next two weeks. All books are to be returned each week. Please ensure your child brings their book bag to school each day. Readers will not go home unless they are in a book bag. You may purchase book bags from the office for $5

Hats and Shoes

A reminder that hats are compulsory and need to be brought to school by all learners everyday in Terms 1 and 4. A lot of our class learning takes place outside, as well as all of morning tea and lunch, so it is very important learners bring their hats every day.

We encourage parents to label or distinguish hats carefully and clearly, to avoid any hats being lost. We are also encouraging shoes to be labelled or have something unique on them as we have many learners take off and misplace their shoes during the day.

Lateness

Please make sure your child is at school before 8.55am (when the bell goes) to ensure they are ready for the start of their school day. It is preferable that they arrive at 8.45am to sort out their things and then get ready for learning.

If you would like to speak to a teacher regarding your child’s learning please email the team or individual teacher to arrange a time to meet. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

School Supervision

Our learning day starts at 8.55am, our hub doors open at 8.30am. When learners arrive in the morning we encourage them to organise themselves to be ready for learning. This involves hanging up their bags and bringing in their book bags.

If learners arrive before 8.30am they can be booked into Kelly Club. Kelly Club provides both before and after school care. Please contact Celia Mackinven at stonefields@kellyclub.co.nz should you require before and after school care.

Sickness

If your child is sick, for example; contagious coughing, coloured mucus from nose, high temperatures, has been vomiting or had diarrhea, please keep them home so other children in the hub and teachers do not get sick. We prefer that the children stay at home for 48 hours after their sickness so the bugs can not be passed on. Use the ‘Absentee’ tab on the School App to let us know your child is absent. Alternatively call the office on 527 7721 or email admin@stonefields.school.nz

Parent Helpers Please!

We would love your help with the following:

- Putting reading books away

- Hearing learners read

- Photocopying and laminating

- Pencil sharpening

If you are able to come in after lunch from 2pm onwards Monday - Friday (but not assembly days) or before school that would be great. It does not have to be every week, every little bit helps. Please click here if you are able to help.

We look forward to meeting you all. Please feel free to connect with us, we are free most mornings and after-school, except for Thursday mornings and Mondays after school.

Please email us if you have any questions.
