Akomanga Iwa (Hub 9)

Kia Ora Parents/Whanau,

We have had a great start to the Term. It has been wonderful to see learners settling into routines and getting stuck into their learning. We would also like to warmly welcome our new learners to Stonefields and to our Hub:

Anant Singh and Joshua Mathews

Please take the time to read this update and the reminders below.

LEARNING THIS TERM

Power of You (Concept Learning)

This term our learning is focusing on how we have an impact on ourselves, others, and the wider community. We will be encouraging the students to take ownership of the the Hub. This will include up cycling to enrich our learning environment. We would appreciate any ideas and resources you may have. Keep a look out for notifications for what the hub is in need of throughout the term.

EXCITING EVENTS THIS TERM

Swimming

This will be going ahead for Term One with our hub attending the following weeks:

Week 4: Tuesday February 26th, Wednesday February 27th, Thursday February 28th.

Week 5: Tuesday March 5th, Wednesday March 6th, Thursday March 7th

We will require all swimming items to be clearly labelled including all uniform items, as things can easily be misplaced or accidentally picked up when items are not labelled. Further information will be made available through the communication update.

Meet the Teacher Evening

We are holding a ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening in Hub 9 on Thursday February 21st, starting at 4:30pm. We’ll be introducing ourselves and answering any questions you might have about the school (and intermediate years) here at Stonefields. The evening will be followed by a picnic on the field. We’d love to have you along.

REMINDERS

School Information

The Stonefields School App is a great place to receive all notifications and school information. Another place to find information is our school website. Link to website communication page.

School Uniforms

Please ensure all school items are named. This includes lunchbox, school bag, all clothing, hats etc...

Lost items are regularly sent to the red lost property cupboard outside the school library. The summer uniform consists of a short sleeve polo shirt, shorts for boys and skorts for girls. Shoes are black and hair accessories are to be in our school colours. This also includes a wide brimmed navy or black hat.

Sickness

If your child is sick and has been vomiting or had diarrhoea, we would advise that they remain at home to recover, and to prevent other children from getting sick. Your support with this would be appreciated. Use the ‘Absentee’ tab on the School App to let us know your child is absent. Alternatively call the office on 527 7721 or email admin@stonefields.school.nz

School Hours

Learners are able to enter the Hub from 8:30am onwards, with our school day beginning at 8:55am and finishing at 3pm.

Please note that teachers have professional development every Thursday from 7:30am and will not be back in the hub until 8:45am. If your child arrives earlier we suggest you consider our Out of School Care programme, which is run by an outside provider called Kelly Club. The programme runs everyday in the school hall before and after school. Please contact the office for more information.

Food & Waste

Stonefields School is an Enviro School and we aim to minimise the quantity of waste that we produce here. We encourage our students to keep food wrappers at home, and to keep food waste in their lunch boxes. Brain food is vital for children during their learning. Lollies and treats need to be left at home please. We appreciate your support with this.

Assessment

There are a range of assessment that we will be doing this term for Manaiakalani and Stonefields. We will be starting our assessment in Week 2 (commencing Monday February 11th).

Volunteers

As always, we love having your support within the hub. If you are available to offer your time in any of the following areas could you please let us know:

- Break Through

- Spelling testing

- Reading mileage (Reading Rocks)

- Returning readers to the resource room

- Laminating & cutting resources

Please note we value any time that you can spare.

Our doors are always open and we are very happy to have a chat before or after school. If you have any questions or concerns and need a longer time to meet with us, please feel free to contact us to make a scheduled time to connect.

We look forward to meeting you all and hope you are able to attend the 'Meet the Teacher' evening on Thursday February 21st, starting at 4:30pm.
