Tomorrow's School Review
We are currently working on a response from Stonefields School regarding the “Tomorrow’s School Review”. The Government appointed a panel in April 2018 to review the governance and administration of our schools, with the report being released in December 2018 for public consultation. The proposed reforms are significant and address the following eight issues/themes; Governance; Schooling Provision; Competition and Choice; Disability and Learning Support; Teaching; Leadership; Resourcing; and Central Government Agencies.
You can find the full review or summary by clicking HERE.
It is important the government hears from as many of our parents as possible.
New Build Update
We would like to give you the latest update on building development at Stonefields School.
Our 3rd stage project was formally approved by the Ministry of Education in 2017. You may well remember the Minister at the time, Nikki Kaye, coming to Stonefields to make the announcement to our learners. Since then the project team have been involved in master-planning, concept design, and more recently, detailed design of the exterior and interior. We are very excited about the project. It means we will be able to create a wonderful facility to help accommodate projected local student growth, and take us to a peak roll of 1025.
Digital Smarts
This is a friendly reminder to continue to encourage learners to be good digital citizens. Click here for the Manaiakalani Cyber Smarts for further information.
Important Learner Safety - Scooters and Bikes
Please note due to health and safety reasons, scooters and bikes are not permitted to be used during school hours (between 8.30am and 3.30pm) They are to be used to travel to and from school safely and we highly recommend helmets are worn.
Learner Safety
We would like to reiterate the importance of parking and travelling around the school in a respectful and considerate manner. Please note the restrictions in place for parking on both Vialou Lane and Guyon Street at peak times. Click here for our safety message.

The internal design has been completed with architects Jasmax, and has benefitted from considerable engagement with our learners and teachers. We have looked hard at the way our teachers use space to amplify their teaching, how our learners respond to their environment and use it to support their learning, their preferences and their suggestions for improvements. As a result we’ve created a design that is build around a set of learning settings in order to enable; active learning in groups, quiet independent learning, focused learning with a teacher, collaboration, and presentation. We have also ensured there are a variety of smaller spaces within the larger hubs to ensure options for all learners. Some of these have doors that enable them to be contained; others semi-open but differentiated through internal fit-out. You can see a few examples below.
The two-storey building will be constructed on the Guyon Street side of our site. It will face into the middle of the school’s campus, and consist of 8 hubs; 4 up and 4 down. Construction is due to commence in August 2019, and finish towards the end of 2020. As shown on the plan the site will be fully contained and secured (with a couple of window panels so our learners can see what is going on). Access for construction traffic will be from Guyon Street, including parking for construction workers. The intention is that none of them will need to park in the local streets. Construction deliveries will be arranged outside peak school drop off and pick up times. The contractors will generally work Monday-Friday a possibility of some work being required on Saturdays.
If you are keen to learn more, would like a closer look at the plans, or just have a question or two don’t hesitate to get in touch with Chris Bradbeer - chris@stonefields.school.nz
Critical to Learn | We value your feedback
We sincerely value the voices of our parents and caregivers - If you didn’t have the opportunity to have your say during the ‘Meet the Teacher' event, now is your last chance. FOSS (Friends of Stonefields School - like a PTA only better)
FOSS is a voluntary parent group who organise essential fundraising and community events. FOSS has been a very strong group in the past but, as with many parent teacher associations, it has gone through a natural life cycle and with smaller numbers, it is difficult to maximise potential.
We thank everyone who has previously been a FOSS member or assisted FOSS in any way, your work and dedication was greatly appreciated. 2019 now brings an exciting opportunity to start afresh as such and change our thinking on how we do things including meetings and how we best maximise time and effort. FOSS involve themselves by coordinating fun events for our learners such as the school disco and for the adults there have been some amazing quiz nights and social evenings. FOSS have also raised funds to purchase essentials such as shade for our playgrounds and the playgrounds themselves!
If you wish to become a FOSS member or just be involved with specific events, please complete the survey by clicking HERE. All efforts and contributions are most welcome. Once we have gathered interest, we will be in touch and keep you in the loop.

Year 5-8 Swim Meet
On the 8th March, Stonefields School had their senior swimming sports. Years 5 through to 8 battled it out for a spot in the top three. The learners got to choose the races they wanted to participate in with a minimum of two. The strokes included Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly with a 25 and 50-meter option for all. There was an interschool sign up that went out to the year 7 and 8's the day before so the competitors with the top times got to choose if they wanted to compete in Eastern Zones, the Inter- School Championship. This action filled, jam-packed day was so much fun and we hoped parents and learners enjoyed this as much as we did.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in these races! Results are available in our sports website.
