Kia Ora,
We have had a great start to the term. It has been wonderful to hear all about our learners exciting holidays and dive straight into their learning. We are enjoying the beautiful sunshine, long may it continue…..but Mr. Baker is very pleased that the temperature is finally dropping….
Please take the time to read this update and the reminders below.
Term Two Concept - Community - Our school and beyond….
Our learning for Term 2 concept is focused on the concept of community in all its shapes and forms.
To begin to tackle this often challenging conceptual idea, we are taking part in a cross hub immersion.
We are experiencing 12 different community sessions from different senior school teachers to share their community knowledge and passions and experience the breadth that the community concept has to offer.
Whole School Communication

Community Notices
Please take the time to click on our community notices. This section holds information on what is going on in and around our community, outside of school activities. New notices have and has recently been added and the section is updated on a regular basis.
Mr Baker is building knowledge on some of the larger global issues which are putting our planet in the learning pit and using digital photo editing tools to showcase the possible impact that these could have on our very own Stonefields neighbourhood areas.
Ms O’Sullivan is thinking about the global community that is being affected by the use of plastic, especially in our lunch boxes! How can we as global citizens take action to cause change across the globe?
We have also been busy building our very own Akomanga Tekau settlement! We’re imagining ourselves as new arrivals to a proverbial Land of Milk and Honey.
We’ve questioned ourselves and each other and brainstormed the most important buildings that a fledgeling community might need, including shelters, food stores and production, health care facilities and schools (hurray!). How will our use of the materials in our new home affect our environment? What difficulties will we face in our new home? Can we use the learning process and learner qualities to aid us in this process?
We are also looking at how different communities interact with each other and what it means to succeed as part of a group and what each of us needs to bring in order for our settlement to weather social and environmental challenges…..
Will our yet unnamed Akomanga Tekau settlement flourish or flounder? Stay tuned to our Twitter find to find out……
Have a look at some snapshots of the exciting learning taking place in Akomanga Tekau, below!
Reminders
School Uniforms
Please ensure all school items are named. This includes lunchbox, school bag, all clothing, hats, etc.
Lost items are regularly sent to the red lost property cupboard outside the Akomanga Koru, (previously the library). The summer uniform consists of a short sleeve polo shirt, shorts for boys and skorts for girls. Shoes are black and hair accessories are to be in our school colours. A wide-brimmed navy or black hat is now optional in Term 2 and 3.
Cross County
Cross country is taking place on Friday 28th June! We will start training in the weeks leading up to the event. Learners will need to bring in appropriate running footwear and gear and time will be provided for them to get changed etc. More information about the training and cross country event will go out shortly.
Kiwi Sport
This term we are thrilled to offer Kiwi Sport Taekwondo to our Year 4-6 cohort. This will take place on Tuesday mornings with learners attending 40-minute sessions each week. This will run for six weeks.
Food & Waste
Stonefields School is an Enviro School and we aim to minimise the quantity of waste that we produce here. We encourage our students to keep food wrappers at home and to keep food waste in their lunch boxes. Brain food is vital for children during their learning. Lollies and treats need to be left at home, please. We appreciate your support with this.
Volunteers
As always, we love having your support within the hub. If you are available to offer your time in any of the following areas could you please let us know:
We value any time that you can spare.
Our doors are always open and we are happy to have a chat before or after school. If you have any questions or concerns and need a longer time to meet with us, please contact us to make a scheduled time to connect. Please note that we have our scheduled PLD meetings on Thursday mornings before school, so we are unable to meet during this time.
We both love to share our learning with you in the hub via Twitter, so please feel free to follow our twitter handles (and like our posts….not that it’s a competition….ahem) to see all the amazing learning which we are doing in Akomanga Tekau
We look forward to seeing you all and hope you are able to attend the Learner Led Conferences evening of Wednesday 5th June in Week 6.
Kind regards,
Akomagna Tekau Teachers
