Akomanga Rima (Hub 5)

Welcome back to Term 2

With camp on the horizon and lots of exciting opportunities being made available to our learners, we have a fantastic term ahead of us!

Already deep into our learning, we're looking at relocating civilisation to Mars and all of the challenges and considerations that come with it. We've had had a blast already (and it's only the start!)

The following updates relating to different learners so we would encourage you to check with your children to determine whether the following applies to them.

Ukulele Lessons - Before-School Club

We're very fortunate to have a member of the community offer her time to teach our learners how to play the ukulele on Wednesday mornings before school (8am - 8.45am).

We have approximately 30 ukuleles available to our year 7/8 learners and welcome everyone (regardless of existing skill level). If, as a parent, you'd like to come along and join us, you're also more than welcome.

Thank you to the school for paying the koha on our behalf, making these sessions free of charge to our families.

Mother/Daughter Workshop

We have been sponsored by Pak N Save to host a Mother/Daughter workshop again, and, to the mothers of our year 7-8 girls, we would like to extend an invitation to join us.

This externally-run workshop will focus on further strengthening bonds and building self-esteem amongst our lovely young ladies. It will be held between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Thursday the 13th of June in the staff hub.

Mums, should you wish to attend with your daughter could you please enter your details on this form.

As we are limited to 12 pairs, we will be allocating the spots on a 'first come, first served' basis. The girls that are not involved in the workshop will continue their learning within the hub as normal (and we do require both mother and daughter to be present should you wish for them to attend).

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Camp Website

To keep things streamlined, we have created a camp website. There, you'll find key information and, from now on, our updates. Please check in on that site periodically as important information will be shared there.

Please take the time to click on our community notices. This section holds information on what is going on in and around our community, outside of school activities. New notices have and has recently been added and the section is updated on a regular basis.

Annie

A family favourite, Annie will soon be performed by the National Youth Theatre Company at the Aotea Centre in Auckland City.

To make things even more exciting, Margot, one of our fabulous learners, will be playing the role of Duffy!

We would be delighted if your child would like to join us in supporting Margot (and enjoying this incredible production) on Thursday the 27th of June. The bus will leave school at 11.20am and will return just before the end of the day.

If your child would like to attend, could you please complete this form. This will then allow us to load the $20 payment to your account which you will be able to pay shortly.

Likewise, if you are able to attend the show as a parent helper, could you please signal your interest on the aforementioned form (for which there will be no charge).

Please note:

    • Any learners that do not wish to attend will continue their normal programme at school.
    • Numbers are limited by our transport (approximately 50 children).
    • Should more wish to attend, we may be able to transport additional learners via car.
    • Learners in attendance will need to bring a packed lunch on the day.
    • Should you require any more information, we are happy to help.

William Pike Presentation

We are very fortunate to have been invited to hear William Pike present to our learners at a local school on Tuesday the 7th of May. The learners were all invited to submit an application to attend and we're pleased to share that the following have been selected.

The total cost for this trip will be $7 and the cost has been loaded against the applicable school accounts.

As this is a local visit, there is no need to complete a permission form granting your child permission to attend - payment will be considered approval.

Congratulations to those that were selected!

Learners who are not heading along to this presentation will engage in exciting learning in the hub.

Bake Sale

To help bring the costs of camp down, some learners in the hub have planned a bake sale. If you're able to contribute (however big or small - homemade or store-bought), we would certainly appreciate your assistance in helping to raise funds for camp.

Likewise, any money that your learners contribute to the purchase of baked goods will come off of our collective camp costs. Win-win!

Camp Update

With camp coming up this term (17-21 June), we are well and truly into the final stages of planning.

Could you please complete the following form on behalf of your child, ensuring that all information is as clear as possible. You will be able to update this information should circumstances change.

You'll notice we've streamlined this process. The information that used to be gathered across three different forms is now all found in the link above.

The learners themselves will also need to complete this form to accept the terms of their attendance at camp.

If you know that your child will be unable to attend camp, could you please inform us as soon as possible by completing this form.

It is important that we have either the learner information form or the non-attendance form as soon as possible, please. They are due by the end of the week but the sooner, the better. Should you have any questions, please contact sarah.chant@stonefields.school.nz.

Once we have final numbers, we will be able to confirm the number of buses we need, and most importantly, how many parent helpers we need.

Thank you for your ongoing support - we cannot wait!
