Update 8 - 24th May 2019

It was wonderful to see all our lovely learners and staff dressed in pink last Friday for Pink Shirt Day, standing together for such a wonderful cause.

With your help, we raised $755 for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. Thank you to everyone for your support.

Staff News

Alan Verrall has resigned from his Caretaker role at Stonefields School. Alan will be leaving us on the 31st May 2019.

Alan joined us in January 2018 and has been an important part of our School support team. He will be missed by our learners, staff and the community as a whole and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

We are currently in the process of exploring a variety of options to best meet our Property Management requirements. As soon as we have finalised this process, we will communicate more information.

Sport

Stonefields School World Cup Day

On Friday 7th June the Women’s World Cup kicks off.

To celebrate this we will be hosting an event, Stonefields World Cup day. Our learners will be learning how events like the World Cup involve Bringing our Best Together. They will be taking part in a range of different activities covering different curricular areas like literacy, math, music, physical education and drama. This will event will replace this year's junior duathlon (Yr 0-3)

Need to know:

Learners will be placed in a team for the day. We are encouraging all learners to dress in the colours of their team. Learners will be advised by their hub teachers what team (country) they are "representing"

Lots of activities will be physical so learners need to wear trainers.

You are more than welcome to come and watch this exciting event take place.

    • Kick Off: 11:30am
    • Half Time (lunch) 12:50pm - 1:40pm
    • Final Whistle: 2:50pm

Should the event be postponed due to the weather on Friday 7th June, this will be communicated via the School app. The "save date" for the event is Friday 14th June 2019.

We wish Mrs Duncan and the Football Ferns the best of luck for the World Cup!

Eastern Zone Girls Football Tournament

Our Yr 7/8 Girls took part in the Eastern Zones Football Tournament this week. This was an exciting milestone, as it was the first time that Stonefields have participated in this event. The team brought confidence and determination from the start, playing really well as a team. We finished with a very proud team after some nail-bitingly close and exciting games. As always, we'd like to thank our whānau for their help and support on the day.

Message from the Board of Trustees

Teacher Strike Action | Wednesday 29th May 2019 | School Closure

As per our previous communication, NZEI Te Rui Roa and PPTA members voted overwhelmingly to hold joint strike action with secondary teachers in the form of a full day strike on Wednesday 29th May 2019 and this has now been confirmed.

The Board has again carefully considered the availability of teaching staff, support staff and extra relief staff, and unfortunately, have decided that we can’t provide the normal teaching services during the strike and will need to close the school for the day.

It is therefore important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike. We appreciate that this is inconvenient for parents, caregivers and our learners, but please be assured that the safety of our students is our highest priority in this instance. As an option, Kelly Club will be running an all-day care programme within the school hall on this date and they can be contacted via email stonefields@kellyclub.co.nz if required.

As previously communicated to you, we wanted to give our school community as much notice as possible, as you will have to make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike.

Thank you for your understanding and please don’t hesitate to contact us via board@stonefields.school.nz if you have any queries relating to this.

Ngā mihi nui,

Matt Evans

Stonefields School Board of Trustees
