Family Fun & Meet the Teachers
Today - Thursday 21st February - To be held in your child's hub
We are looking forward to seeing you all at the meet your child/ren's hub Teachers event this evening. It is planned to be an opportunity for you to get to know your child's teachers and other families in the hub, hear about the learning planned for the term and answer any questions you may have. Some fun activities have been designed to get to know our families and whānau so be prepared to join in!
There are two sessions planned which will allow for parents who need to visit different hubs the opportunity to do so.
Following the meet and greet there will be games and activities for all to enjoy on the field.
All families are welcome to bring along a picnic. We have secured two food trucks The Rolling Pin Dumplings and Crepes Creations as well as The Ellerslie Coffee Guy.
We do encourage parents and caregivers to walk when possible to this event so as to ease the congestion around the streets for our immediate neighbours.
2019 Digital Tools information sessions for parents during Meet The teacher - Today!
Don't forget, for parents of learners who are new to chromebooks, information sessions are being facilitated to enable you to be Cyber Smart just like your children. In order for your child's device to be able to go home, parents must attend Module 1 which will be held during our Meet the teacher event tonight Please attend a session at either 4pm or 5pm in Hub 3 (Top of the red staircase). If you have attended this module before with an older sibling, you will not need to repeat it.
Once your child has completed their Cyber Smart Kawa of Care training and you have completed Module 1, the device will be able to go between school and home if you so desire.
For any questions, please contact mel.prasad@stonefields.school.nz.
Stonefields Wellbeing App
Are you an iOS, MacOS and ChromeOS App developer? We need your help!
You may be aware that a small group of parents have been working with the school for the last 2 years on an app (formerly known as the Postural App) to help learners with their posture in different positions, taking regular brain breaks, increase movement/activity during learning time and encourage breathing and mindfulness.
With a mix of iPads, iMacs and Chromebooks, the app needs to work across all of these operating systems.
We have physiotherapists (who are also parents) involved to help from a health and wellbeing perspective and a concept of how we would like the app to be developed in stages that we have already run past a developer. However, the school does not have the resources to fund the project. We did apply to the Ministry of Education for funding, however after much discussion, we were finally informed at the end of last year that this was not possible.
We believe that there is a real need to look after our learner’s wellbeing and are hoping we can find a way to move forward by maybe partnering with a development company in a similar way to SchoolTalk. Maybe there are parents within our school community who have the ability (or connections) to help us with this?
If you would like to find out more, we are holding an information evening on Thursday 28th February at 7pm and would love to see anyone who is interested to attend. It will be held in Hub 3 at the top of the red stairs. We look forward to meeting you then. Stonefields Wellbeing App Team
