Update 6 - 2nd May 2019

Welcome Back, Naumai Haere Mai

Tēnā Koutou Katoa,

A warm welcome to the start of Term 2 of the 2019 school year. A warm welcome to all our new families and members of staff. We hope you had a fun and restful holiday.

The start of term Pōwhiri held on Monday was a wonderful and empowering way to commence the new term.

We are always very grateful for the support and hospitality that Kaumatua Tautoko, or Papa Big as he is known to us, gives through this rich, cultural welcome celebration and blessing.

Assembly Feedback

We wish to say a big thank you to those of you that responded to the survey regarding assemblies at Stonefields School. We had 283 people respond.

The consensus was that Friday afternoon was a preferable time for assemblies with just over 2/3rds of respondents. The length of assemblies was preferred to be 45 minutes and a mixture of live performance, singing, digital and celebration of learning through certificates is valued.

The Friday assemblies will, therefore, remain on a Friday with a start time of 2:00pm and finish at 2:45pm so learners can be dismissed and back in their hubs to be collected and get ready for home time.

Manaiakalani Parent Survey

We would value your time in completing the Manaiakalani Parent survey. The data gathered from this survey is for the Woolfe Fisher Research Centre, which is connected to our Manaiakalani school cluster.

What is Manaiakalani you ask? Please click here to find out more about Manaiakalani.

The purpose of this survey is to ensure our families are familiar with the overarching concepts of Learn, Create, Share and how this connects to and enhances your child’s learning.

In the questionnaire, you will see the words Learn, Create, Share. This connects to the Stonefields language of learning which includes the Learning Process, the Learning Pit, Learner Qualities and our School’s vision rocks, please click here to view.

The questionnaire will ask you to think of examples that connect to your child’s learning. Examples may include your child’s evidence on SchoolTalk, examples in the hub environment and what your child shares and works on at home.

Please click here to access the survey. We ask that the survey is completed by Friday 24th May 2019

We appreciate your support.

Learner Lead Conferences

Learner Led Conferences (LLCs) will take place on Wednesday 5th June 2019.

Time: 2:00 pm - 7:30 pm (please note the time slot from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm is not available for Year 1)

School will finish at 1.30 pm ready for the Learner Led Conferences to start at 2.00pm.

If you are able to collect your children at 1:30 pm from School you are welcome to do so. Kelly Club will open early due to early school finish.

New to Learner Led Conferences?

The purpose of the Learner Led Conferences is for the learner to take ownership of their learning and share with you what they have been learning, how they are going and what their next learning steps are.

A conference can last around 45 minutes to an hour. Your child will lead the conference and share their learning, evidence of their achievements and the types of learning experiences they are involved in at School.

A reminder that the LLCs are not for Year 0 children, that is learners who started at the beginning of Term 2 2019. Instead, you will have a 5 week connect with one of your child's hub teachers.

More information regarding booking your preferred slot will follow in the next communication update.

Sports

Physical Education

As the weather is changing this term we would ask that learners come prepared for PE with their fleeces. Learners may also wish to bring trainers to wear for PE as we will be using the field for a lot of our learning this term.

School Sport

Our first Inter School Sports competition this term is football on Wednesday 15th May. This event is open to Yr 3 - 8 with separate boys and girls grades. This means we will have a lot of teams so we would really appreciate any help with training before the competition or managing the teams on the day. We are in the process of trialling and selecting teams. If you are keen to help please contact lynnk@stonefields.school.nz.

Message from the Board of Trustees

NZEI Union Member Meeting

On Friday 10th May 2019 at 1:30 pm, a number of our staff members will be attending an NZEI Union Meeting. This meeting will provide NZEI members with an update on how the campaign is progressing and the chance to vote on whether to accept or reject the latest offers from the Ministry. The NZEI members will also be voting on whether to take strike action should the offers be rejected.

There is no change to our school day and it will be business as usual for us at Stonefields School. We will have enough staff members to cover the afternoon and will be running school singing in the afternoon as the safety of our learners is our highest priority.

Thank you for your understanding and please contact us via board@stonefields.school.nz if you have any queries relating to this.
