Update 15 - 5 September, 2019

A Message from the Board of Trustees
It is an important time of the year where we ask you, our School community to take five minutes of your time to complete our 2019 community survey.
The Board of Trustees really does value your honest feedback and this is a great way for us to collectively work together on improvements and new projects. By completing this survey, you will enable us to work on our planning for 2020 in a much more relevant and accurate way.

Based on your feedback from last years’ survey:
  • We have committed to funding a full-time sports specialist in 2019 and 2020.
  • We have funded additional teachers to maintain lower learner to teacher ratios (1:20 in Junior Hubs, 1:26 in Senior Hubs)
  • Funded 5 additional aides to support teaching and learning.
  • Continued to fund a school communications administrator.
  • Commissioned a further master planning initiative to enhance the environment and create diverse play spaces for learners.
We value your voice and use your feedback to continually improve outcomes for our learners and the school community.

Click here to access the survey, or if you would prefer to complete a hard copy of the survey please collect one from the office. If you have more than one child please select the answer as the best fit for all your children.
Please note, the survey closes on Wednesday 18 September.

Cohort Entry 2020
There have been some changes made to the Education Amendment Act 2019 which take effect on 1 January 2020.
The changes are as follows:
  • Children will be able to start school in cohorts but only after they have turned 5;
  • There will be 2 entry points per term, one on the first day of term, and one at a mid-point during a term.
If your child is scheduled to start at Stonefields School in 2020, the above changes will affect your child.
If your child has not turned 5 prior at the start of a Term, they will not be able to start school with the beginning of Term cohort entry but will have to wait for the mid-term cohort entry.

Please see the 2020 cohort entry dates below:

Sport
Junior Cross Country (Year 0-3)
A huge well done to everyone who took part in the Junior Cross Country. It was great to see the determination, collaboration and smiles as our youngest learners raced around the Wetlands in their individual and team orienteering races. We were really encouraged by the energy and excitement from our learners during the event, and when sharing their experiences back at school. Our initial student and community voice suggests that the changes we made have had a positive impact on engagement and enjoyment. We're looking forward to building on this and challenging our learners even more next year.

Certificates will be presented to the winners at the next Junior Assembly, Friday 20th September at 9am.

Thank you to everyone who came down to cheer on and support our learners.
Tamaki Netball Tournament
75 learners from Yr 3 - 8 and our Sommerville Hub took part in the Tamaki Netball tournament last week. It was a great day and our teams brought their best together as they faced some very fast and strong teams. Our teams showed some great teamwork and skill as they progressed through their group games and into playoffs. We are really excited to see the number of children playing netball at Stonefields increasing and are looking forward to seeing even more players on the courts next year!
Eastern Zones Cross Country
Well done to all of our Year 7 and 8s who competed at the Eastern Zones Cross Country. Our racers had tough competition and muddy conditions to contend with but didn't let that hold them back. We are very proud of everyone's efforts and results.
Auckland Intermediate Champion of Champions Gymnastics
Congratulations to our learners who competed in the Auckland Intermediate Gymnastics Champs. Our girls demonstrated their strength, balance and composure as they performed alongside Auckland's best gymnasts. A special mention to Megan and Hannah who finished joint 8th in the Yr 8 girls - an incredible achievement!

As always, we would like to thank all of our whānau for their help and support with these events. This support is invaluable as it allows us to provide these opportunities for so many of our learners.

Children Travel Free on Weekends
Auckland Transport has an exciting opportunity for your students.
From Saturday 7 September, children under the age of 16 who have an AT HOP card will be able to travel free on Auckland Transport’s weekend services.
It’s been three years since AT Metro introduced the 99 cent fares on weekends for children that made it easier and cheaper for children to get around Auckland at the weekend.

Now, Auckland Transport is offering a 100% discount on weekend fares for children 5 to 15 (inclusive) travelling on buses, trains and participating ferries. This comes as part of the $1.1 million contribution from Auckland Council towards public transport initiatives, announced earlier this year.

Colin Homan, Group Manager of Integrated Networks says the move will make a lot of Auckland accessible for families. “We’re really excited about this initiative that will make public transport more affordable for families and our younger generations, so they can enjoy time together and explore on the weekends”.

The fare free travel is available on buses, trains and participating ferry services on weekends and during public holidays. To qualify for this fare, parents need to load a child concession on to a registered AT HOP card.
