Community Notices

Please take the time to click on our community notices. This section holds information on what is going on in and around our community, outside of school activities. New notices have and has recently been added and the section is updated on a regular basis.

Assembly and Certificates

This term our Junior assemblies will be held on the following days:

    • Friday 9th August 2019 (Week 3)
    • Friday 30th August 2019 (Week 6)
    • Friday 20th September 2019 (Week 9)

Certificates are given out to 8 children per hub at junior assemblies. We will send out an email letting parents know if your child is receiving a certificate. Parents are welcome to attend on the dates listed above.

Kiwisport - Get Set Go

As part of our physical education, our learners will be participating in 6 sessions of Get Set Go every Monday this term. We start on Monday 29th July and finish on Monday 2nd September. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a range of physical movement skills, knowledge and cognitive skills and emotional and social skills. The emphasis is on the development of fundamental movement patterns through running, jumping and throwing.

Junior Cross Country (Year 0-3)

Our staff and learners have been exploring some big questions in regards to our whole school sports events and reflecting on the purpose, outcomes and inclusivity. Learning design is always evolving and our sports events should be evolving too to ensure that we are providing the richest opportunities for all of our learners.

Last term, in response to learner's voice, we made changes to the Senior Cross Country. This was hugely successful and we were really excited by the atmosphere on the day and the massive shift in the data from learner's voice after the event. Key outcomes were: increase in motivation and participation, increased sense of success and learners enjoying having more agency.

With the Junior Cross Country approaching we are thinking about where we go next with this event. We would love to have a community voice on this, from parents/caregivers of learners who love cross country and from those who hate cross country. All perspectives are important is helping us to meet the diverse needs of our learners.

On Friday, 2nd August, we will be having an open forum in Hub 3 from 8:00am - 8:45am. Muffins and coffee will be provided. If you are keen to come along and share your ideas please RSVP for catering purposes. If you are unable to attend but would still like to contribute please email your thoughts to lynnk@stonefields.school.nz

    • The Junior Cross Country will take place on Friday 23rd August 2019 (Save Date: Friday 30th August 2019)

Dance

This term there will be two lessons of dance for the first three weeks of term. Learners may be expected to remove their shoes and socks for this activity so please ensure that children are wearing socks and not stockings. The sessions will take place on Mondays and Fridays in Week 1 and Week 2 and on Wednesday of Week 3.

Cybersmart - Kawa of Care - Traffic Light System

This Term we have introduced a ‘traffic light system’ to remind our learners about our iPadipad Kawa of Care. The last Term our learners went through the Kawa of Care learning and signed a Kawa of Care agreement.

The Kawa of Care agreement outlines ways to care for our iPads and reviews appropriate use of our ipads during learning time. Our ‘Traffic light’ System, supports our learners to ensure they are using their ipads in alignment with our Kawa of Care.

SchoolTalk

SchoolTalk is a great app that allows you and your child to see and chat about what they are learning each day. You will see a calendar with timetabled events, if you click on these events, most of the events will show the modelling book or learning design for that lesson.

Goals: Learning goals can be uploaded by the teacher. When that learning goal has been achieved the box will turn green. If your child is working on that goal then it will be yellow.

Note: We are currently teaching the children how to use SchoolTalk through their learning and how to upload evidence to SchoolTalk. This process takes time so please be patient as it can be a complex tool for 5 and 6-year-olds to use.

Concept Learning

Our concept for Term 3 is Sustainability. We will explore how to reduce the amount of food waste we produce, how to reuse food packaging and other materials and how to recycle waste. This concept will enable Hub 1 learners to become more aware of how they can support their environment.

Parent Helpers Please!

We would love your help with the following:

    • Putting reading books away,
    • Hearing learners read,
    • Photocopying,
    • Laminating,
    • Pencil-sharpening etc.

If you are able to come in before school or after lunch from 2 pm onwards Monday - Friday (but not assembly days) that would be great. It does not have to be every week, every little bit helps. Please click here if you are able to help.

Think Snack

In Hub 1, we will have a ‘Think Snack’, which learners will eat at around 10am. This is optional, not compulsory. It gives our learners an opportunity to have a quick snack while they are learning.

The Health organisation refer to ‘smart snacking’, where people feel more energised, can help with concentration and memory.

For this to work, and not compromise learning time. We are asking for learners to bring in a vegetable or piece of fruit which is preferably sliced or peeled, wrapped separately or in a named container.

Learners will bring it into the hub before school along with their book bag and be placed in the container. There will be several containers labelled for easy access.

Stonefields School is proud to be an Enviro School, to ensure we remain litter-free we recommend the use of reusable containers that are easily accessible to your learner and all rubbish to be taken home.

General Housekeeping

Reading Books

Reading books will be given out on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Please can all books be placed in the return boxes at the start of each week.

Hats and Shoes

A reminder that hats are compulsory in term 1 and 4 but strongly encouraged throughout the year. A lot of our class time learning takes place outside as well at morning tea and lunch, so it is very important learners bring their hats every day. We encourage parents to label or distinguish hats carefully and clearly, to avoid any hats being lost. We are also encouraging shoes to be labelled or have something unique on them as we have many learners take off and misplace their shoes during the day. Many thanks!

Fleeces

Please mark the labels with children’s names. Fleeces are expensive items of clothing and they need to be returned to the correct person. Can you please practice with your child how to put their fleeces in their bags and zip them in their bags.

Please practice putting all their items in their school bag the night before school - lunchboxes, morning tea boxes, book bags. If these items do not fit into their bags, then please buy a bigger bag for your child to avoid losing these precious items.

Lateness

Learners arriving at school after the bell has gone has a huge impact on their learning time and the teachers’ teaching time. Please make sure your child is at school before 8.55am (when the bell goes) to ensure they are ready for the start of their school day. It is preferable that they arrive at 8.45am to sort out their things and then get ready for learning. If you would like to speak to a teacher regarding your child’s learning, please email to arrange a time to meet. Our time is very limited as the school day starts. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

School Supervision

Please remember school supervision is from 8.30 - 3.00pm. Learners may not be in the Hub until 8.30am. It is preferable that they arrive at/ by 8.45am to sort out their things and then get ready for learning. Before 8.30am, children should be booked into Kelly Club They also do after school care. Please book them in. Celia Mackinven stonefields@kellyclub.co.nz

Sickness

If your child is sick and has been vomiting or had diarrhoea, please keep them home so other children in the hub and teachers do not get sick. We prefer that the children stay at home for 48 hours after their sickness so the bugs cannot be passed on.

Kapa Haka

Kapa Haka meet every Monday morning from week 1 at 8 am - 8.45 am in Hub 6.

Junior Pasifika

Junior Pasifika meet every Tuesday lunchtime from week 1 at 1-1.30pm in Hub 1.
