The Trouble with Tink

Often, librarians and teachers stick their noses up at books that are considered pop culture or less than quality literature. I think anything a kid wants to read in their free time is just great. I encourage reading in all its forms! Students will enjoy "quality literature" more if reading is something that comes easier and they enjoy. Reading for fun helps to develop a student's reading ability.

We have many, many new books. I love new books. The students have been checking them out at a wonderful rate! Last night, I took home The Trouble with Tink in The Disney Fairies series. With the word "Disney" involved, one might consider this a second rate book. I found the storyline engaging and the illustrations were lovely. Tink, a fixer of pots-and-pans, loses her all important hammer in a game of fairy tag. She is so embarrassed to be considered careless that she tries to continue to fix pots with other makeshift tools. Rumors abound that she has lost her "talent" when her usual perfection turns out disastrous results. Tink must make some hard decisions. With the help of her true friend, Terence, she is able to overcome this obstacle.

I'd recommend these books to students that are comfortably reading Junie B. Jones or Magic Tree House and can handle a little longer book. This book was 109 pages and will generally appeal more to girls.
