The Amazing Day of Abby Hayes: Reach for the Stars

Post date: Jun 12, 2014 3:17:58 AM

This series follows the attempts of Abby Hayes to be successful in various pursuits. She is plagued by the Supersibs. Her two older twin sisters fight constantly, but Isabel is the super brain and Eva is the super athlete. Her younger brother, Alex. is a scientific genius. Abby is trying to be the best she can be. The book is told alternating between a journal written in first person by Abby that looks like handwriting to a 3rd person perspective in normal type. This series would work well to teach point of view.

In Reach for the Stars, Abby's 5th grade class is going to produce the play, Peter Pan. Abby works EXTREMELY hard for two weeks to win a starring role. She doesn't decide which part she wants to try-out for until the last minute because she rotates through Captain Hook, Peter Pan and Wendy. She considers Peter Pan but is worried because her best friend, Natalie, shows an incredible ability for acting and is also considering that part. Then, there is Brianna, the class know-it-all-I've-taken-dance-acting-singing-lesson-for-all-my-life girl who is also in the mix and is bouncing between trying out for Peter Pan and Wendy. What role does Abby try out for? Does she get it? How does the play turn out? Read The Amazing Day of Abby Hayes: Reach for the Stars by Anne Mazer to find out.

This book has a happy ending, but is more realistic to life because things don't always turn out the way we hope and it can still be a good thing.
