In October 2008, author David Schwartz visited our school. He brought LOTS of popcorn with him to demonstrate quantity. This idea comes from part of his book,On Beyond a Million. It was a raging success and just lots of fun. When he was telling where he got his idea for the popcorn machine that just wouldn't stop, he talked about this book, Homer Price by Robert McCloskey.

I had to admit I'd never read this classic written in 1943. Homer is a fun lovin' boy that lives on the outskirts of the small town of Centerburg. Each chapter tells of one of Homer's adventures with other townspeople like his Uncle Ulysses that owns and runs the local diner, the sheriff that mixes up his words and Miss Terwilliger who is the apple of two different mens' eye. Boys and girls of all ages will enjoy the wacky ancedotes from the ball of string contest to the Michael Murphy's musical Mousetrap (on wheels!). This book is still funny and enjoyable 66 years later. Why don't you try it today?
