Fairfield Township Fire and EMS Protection is provided through the Township fire levy and joint cooperation of the New Waterford Volunteer Fire Department, Leetonia Volunteer Fire Department, and Columbiana Fire Department as contracted by the Fairfield Township Trustees.
The Fairfield Township Fire Prevention Officer and Certified Fire Safety Inspector is Preston Straney. Appointed as Fairfield Township Fire Prevention Officer and Certified Fire Safety Inspector in January 2020, Preston brings years of experience and commitment to excellence to assisting the residents and property owners of Fairfield Township. Preston is a 2014 graduate of Crestview High School. He went on to CCCTC and MCCTC to obtain his FF2, AEMT, Fire Safety Inspector, and Hazmat Technician certifications. Preston has been with the New Waterford Volunteer Fire Department since 2014 and with the City of Salem Fire Department since 2016.
In 2009, Fairfield Township completed the installation of a lake and dry hydrant project at the Fairfield Township Administration Complex. Aptly named "Old School Lake" by Crestview Elementary contest winner, Devon Turvey, this lake can provide necessary water to meet fire fighting needs throughout the community in case of emergency.
