We held our 3rd CSAC meeting where we shared attendance data and worked together with staff, parents, and community partners to develop strategies for improving student attendance. Representatives from our various stakeholder groups attended our Community School Coalition meeting at the Vista Innovation Center to develop partnerships and engage in conversation.
Our PBIS team met to discuss our plan for providing Tier 2 intervention supports for students and address our school-wide goals for improving attendance, engagement, and motivation while reinforcing positive behavior. Meanwhile, our guidance team continued biweekly discussions centered around how we can best support our students.
We had representatives from Mira Costa and Palomar College visit campus to assist students with their plans for college enrollment and offer guidance where needed. Community school staff have held individual meetings with students to discuss post-secondary plans. We hosted two financial aid workshops to assist students and families with FAFSA and CADAA completion and offered students and families additional opportunities to participate in other workshops off campus related to this topic.
Students were invited to participate in the Maker’s Market in downtown Oceanside where they could sell their handmade wares to the public. Our students were also invited to participate in RBV’s welding program and were provided with information about job opportunities in various career fields. Finally, students interested in veterinary careers had the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker about what the job entails; this was met with enthusiasm and well attended. Students interested in continuing on this pathway are excited about completing their required labs alongside the veterinarians at the Wildlife Safari Park in Escondido.
Students enjoyed our February spirit week activities with dress-up days, Valentine’s kindness grams, and other festivities throughout the week leading up to the holiday weekend. These activities offered students a chance to reflect and show gratitude and appreciation for the people in their lives who mean the most to them.
Finally, at the end of the month, staff, students, and parents took a trip to Ontario for the Community Engagement Initiative conference and were able to further develop their partnerships and offer support for one another.

A Fun-Filled Month at Alta Vista! 🌟
This month at Alta Vista has been nothing short of exciting and memorable! We’ve had a variety of activities that brought our community together and gave our students new and fun experiences.
Candy Grams Kickoff
We started the month with our Candy Grams fundraiser, where students could send sweet surprises to their friends for just $2. The joy on their faces, when they received these thoughtful messages during advisory, was priceless! It was a sweet way to spread kindness and bring a little cheer to everyone’s day. 🍬💌
Galentine’s Day Celebration
Next, we celebrated Galentine's Day with our wonderful moms during our monthly Coffee with the Principal. It was a warm and cozy event, where we enjoyed delicious fruit salads, pastries, and heartfelt conversations. We were lucky to have one of our talented moms make beautiful flower bouquets for all the attendees, which made the day even more special. 🌸💐 It was a great way to show appreciation for the amazing women in our community!
Field Trip to Coastal Roots
To end the month on a high note, our students had the chance to visit Coastal Roots Farm for a hands-on learning experience. They got to harvest fresh veggies, shop for farm-grown produce, and even feed compost to the chickens! 🐔🌽 It was both educational and fun, and the kids loved every minute of it. Not only did they get to connect with nature, but they also learned about sustainability and the importance of healthy eating.
Looking Ahead
It’s been a fabulous month filled with laughter, learning, and community spirit. We’re excited for what’s to come next month and can’t wait to continue making wonderful memories together!
