Director Message

School is back in full swing at Murray High School and Alta Vista High School! We have VUSD Board Member Rena Marrocoo visiting both schools this month, we celebrated our Rising Star Senior of the Month from Alta Cailey Fernandez, and our undefeated 5-0 unified MGM/Alta basketball team has their championship game vs. Montecito High School this Tuesday January 23rd, @ Montecito at 2:30pm. Good luck to our players in their final regular game of the season before championships! Thank you for all of the parents who attended our initial Coffee with the Principal; our community liaisons are working with parents to schedule a date and tame for February to hold this day again every month. Thank you for your support of our outstanding students at Alta Vista and Murray High School!

Meet our Principal

Join us in welcoming our Principal at both MGM and AVHS, Dr. Joel Miller! Dr. Miller spent most of his career in Chula Vista, where he served as a chemistry teacher at a high school near the US-Mexico border. After serving as a bilingual resource teacher and an assistant principal, Dr. Miller joined MGM and AVHS in August and is honored to support students as they navigate the final chapter of their K-12 education. To the right is Dr. Miller and the rest of the admin team, Dr. Charyn Berg and Ms. Juliet Ross-Ma'u, are shown below.

Dr. Charyn Berg (left) works primarily at Alta Vista High School, where she oversees student behavior, students with special needs, and state/local testing. Ms. Julier Ross-Ma'u (right) works primarily at Murray High School, where she oversees student behavior, school budgets, and data/instruction. Ms. Ross-Ma'u has over 15 years of continuation high school experience, previously working at Alta Vista High School as a counselor.
