We continued our partnership with Vista Community Clinic in offering a series of workshops geared around financial literacy. We also hosted Mira Costa and Palomar Application Workshops. Vista Community Clinic was kind enough to bring their mobile medical unit to campus, offering free health checks to interested students.
Our PBIS team got together to discuss ways to improve student attendance and engagement while also continuing to enhance a positive campus climate and culture. Along those lines, our community liaison and community school team began planning spirit week festivities for the month of February.
Our community school site leads visited Vista High School to explore their new facilities and see first hand how they operate as a community school. Our community school team was invited to bring a group of students to Vista High for their Healthcare Career Fair.
Our college and career tech offered yet another Financial Aid Workshop for families needing assistance with planning for college. She, along with our community school site lead, attended a FAFSA webinar to better assist students with the application process.
Members of our community school team were invited to visit the RBVHS welding program and are currently exploring options for offering this program to our students here at AVHS. In addition, interested students had the opportunity to visit VHS to take the ASVAB and to explore healthcare career opportunities at their Healthcare Careers Fair.
Our Big Picture Learning consultant, Isaak Egge visited our campus and met with each teacher to discuss next steps for student internships. We hope to see more students pursue internships as the new year progresses.

This month at Alta Vista High School, we have focused on enhancing student engagement and support. As part of our efforts, we began conducting home visits to encourage students to return to campus and to provide additional assistance. It was rewarding to reconnect with familiar faces, and we were able to deliver food bags to families in need, offering extra pantry items to support them during this time. The students were genuinely appreciative to see their advisor and myself, and we were fortunate to be able to bring several students back to school in our school van.
Additionally, we have initiated meetings with our student leadership group to plan exciting upcoming events. We are particularly looking forward to celebrating Valentine's Day and Spirit Week, with the aim of fostering greater school spirit and encouraging increased student involvement on campus. We have many fun and engaging activities planned for the coming weeks, so we encourage everyone to stay tuned for more details.
We were also grateful to have the VCC team on campus to assist students in signing up for medical services. Their commitment to student well-being is truly appreciated, and we are excited to announce that they will be returning on Thursday, January 23rd, to provide services at our sister school, Major General Murray High School.
Overall, it has been an exciting and productive start to the year, and we are looking forward to the continued success of our initiatives and the positive impact they will have on our students.
