November has been a month filled with learning, growth, and community at our schools. From academic achievements to cultural experiences, our students and staff have been actively engaged in a variety of activities.
Student Success: Our students have been excelling in various academic areas. Bekka Kinder led a group of students to City of Vista and Fire Cadet interviews, resulting in several securing internships. Additionally, Andy Dayus, Julianne Greenwood, and Annabel Villanueva's advisees also landed internships with the City of Vista. Adrian Duenas was celebrated as a Rising Star at Alta, nominated by Sati Aviles and Kirstin DeGeer—Congratulations, Adrian!
Teacher Collaboration: The Big Picture Book Club continued to foster professional growth, with Lydia Contreras guiding the group through Chapter 2. Subject-Alike PLC meetings provided opportunities for teachers to collaborate and share best practices.
Model School Designation: MGM's Model School Visiting Committee was impressed by the school's parent and community engagement, strong student relationships, and innovative grant implementation.
Community Engagement: Our schools have been actively involved in community events, such as the "Light in the Dark" dinner hosted by Garden31 and the Coffee with the Principal event at Alta. The VCC Mobile Dental unit also visited our campuses to provide dental services to students. Tony Brimmo’s students’ math work is now proudly displayed at the Vista Library.
Cultural Experiences: Students had the opportunity to attend the opera, La Bohème, and a trip to the Balboa Park Science Center.
Sports and Recreation: Basketball season kicked off, and students continue participating in team-building activities at the UCSD ropes course.
During our Thanksgiving break we were able to reflect on how grateful we are for the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and parents. We are excited to continue building upon our successes in the coming months and to create even more opportunities for learning and growth.
Thank you to all our students, staff, community partners, and families for your continued dedication and support. Here's to a great school year!
Dear Students, Families, and Community Members:
Welcome to the Community School Communicator: the monthly newsletter for Murray High School and Alta Vista High School, the two community continuation schools in Vista Unified School District!
I hope your Thanksgiving was filled with warmth and gratitude. As we return from the holiday break, I want to take a moment to reflect on how thankful we are for your support and the vibrant community we share.
At Alta Vista High School, students have been shining in new ways, including creating math projects now displayed at the Vista Library and preparing for success through internships and post-secondary planning. We’re also excited about the leadership shown by our student-athletes, as basketball season kicks off with the first game at Brengle Terrace Park. At Murray High School, we were proud to welcome the Model School Visiting Committee, who praised the enthusiasm of our students, the strength of our family partnerships, and our innovative programs. At Vista Visions Academy, students explored the power of reflection through group circles and continued to engage in personalized learning experiences.
Thank you for being an integral part of what makes our schools thrive. As we move into this joyful season, we look forward to celebrating continued growth and accomplishments together.
