Principal Message
Last week, we had Community School Advisory Committee meetings at Murray and Alta that saw community members and partners working collaboratively towards continuously improving our community schools.
Finally, kids in MGM's cooking program got to visit the kitchen and sample some dishes a few days ago at Wrench & Rodent in Oceanside. Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in last week's fantastic activities!
Up ahead this week in addition to CAASPP, we have our last progress report window of the year opening at the continuations days ago. We also have our student board member, MGM Senior Emma Ritter, presenting at this week's VUSD board meeting, reading a report she wrote regarding the status of three Alt Ed sites and providing updates from the student perspective.
We also celebrated the Rising Star for the month, MGM Senior Joseph Shimek, whose contributions to the MGM garden are remarkable and well-deserving of this award. Thank you to Annabel Villanueva for nominating him and to Charyn Berg for attending the event on short notice and speaking to Joseph's greatness.
In the sports world, Vista High has begun an off-season intramural soccer league, and our MGM/Alta players had their second game of the season already. We also had Coffee with the Principal at MGM on Friday, April 19th.
Our Principal at both MGM and AVHS is Dr. Joel Miller. Dr. Miller spent most of his career in Chula Vista, where he served as a chemistry teacher at a high school near the US-Mexico border. After serving as a bilingual resource teacher and an assistant principal, Dr. Miller joined MGM and AVHS in August and is honored to support students as they navigate the final chapter of their K-12 education.
To reach Dr. Miller, please call 760-631-2502 or email joelmiller@vistausd.org.
