We continued our partnership with Vista Community Clinic in offering a series of workshops geared around financial literacy, educational and career success, resume tips, and job interview skills. We also hosted Mira Costa and Palomar Application Workshops throughout the month and began signing students up for concurrent enrollment with the two community colleges.
Our community school staff members also assisted advisory teachers on December 12 with mock interviews for students, which helped them to better prepare for life after high school.
After taking a group of students to visit Palomar College in November, we were able to take another group of students to visit Mira Costa College in December for a general tour of the campus and facilities.
Our students also participated in the City of Vista Library presentations and several staff members were able to be there to show their support of the students’ hard work.
One of our favorite holiday activities that took place on campus last month included our annual Feast of the Beast holiday luncheon for students and staff, which was prepared and served by our wonderful district CNS staff. We also collaborated with advisory teachers to hold a winter holiday tree decorating competition between the advisory classes. The winning class was rewarded with a prize of their choice and everyone enjoyed getting into the holiday spirit!

This December, Alta Vista High School had a fantastic month, filled with learning and exciting opportunities. I was fortunate to attend a CEI conference in San Jose, accompanied by Marcela Samora and her wonderful daughter, Rubi. Over the course of two incredible days, we were able to hear from amazing speakers and educators who shared insightful stories about their cites and their experiences with the CEI team.
It was an enriching experience that left us inspired and energized. We are excited to continue this journey, focused on improving our school and providing the best possible education for our students. We look forward to all the positive changes ahead!
This December has been filled with incredible moments of growth and generosity at Alta Vista High School. We were truly blessed by the support of Anthem Church, which helped us provide 42 students with a donation. A special thank you goes to Mrs. Greenly, Velia Huerta, and Beatriz Barron for their invaluable help with the sign-up, pick-up, and distribution process. Their support made everything run smoothly, and we are deeply grateful for their dedication to our students. It was a very successful and rewarding effort for all involved.
To wrap up this festive month, we held our first-ever Alta Vista Posada. The event was a wonderful success, with families coming together to share a potluck-style celebration. We enjoyed delicious champurrado made by one of our amazing Alta Vista moms, and the event was filled with warmth and joy as we celebrated together. There were ornament painting, gifts, outdoor games, and plenty of candy. It was heartwarming to see our families, kids, and the broader community come together on such a special night.
I believe this was a truly successful and meaningful night for Alta Vista, and I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who attended and made this event memorable.
