January 2024 Edition 4
January 2024 Edition 4
Murray High School's faculty and staff are proud to announce Marvin Peña as the Student of the Month for January 2024. Marvin has been a model Bulldog in every way. He has transformed from a shy and withdrawn student into a leader. He came to our campus behind in credits and his studies, but he has taken full advantage of every opportunity presented to him here. When offered one-on-one help through the PASS Program last year, he worked hard to increase his literacy and catch up in English. This year, Marvin is a role model for his friends and classmates. He avoids distractions and stays focused in class. He accepts every challenge or opportunity, and he completes credits with quality work. He is always courteous to all of the staff on campus. His goal is to become an electrician, and he is ready to launch an electrical internship with CCC here in Vista as soon as he turns 18 next month. Marvin will achieve his goals because he is hard-working, dedicated, and gracious. He is a pleasure to have in class, and he is exactly the kind of student who makes being a teacher at Murray very rewarding.
Community Liaison
A day full of joy and sweets was enjoyed by students, teachers, parents and employees in the Christmas Party at Murray High School. This happy day was possible because the effort by Erika Flores and Rosalba González, parents of the students Luis Angel Villalpaldo and Brandon González, respectively. Also, several parents, discreetly, were donating sweets and crepe paper; it was nice to return to my desk and see that a student had left a bag of sweets for the piñata in my desk. Thank you all!
I share a video where you can see the happiness that you provoked in the hearts of their children when the piñata was broken. I hope that we can perform more similar activities in the future for the good of our young people.

Community School Resource Teacher
Hi! My name is Lydia T. Contreras. I am the Community School Site Lead at Murray High School. For the past year, Murray High School has been opening our doors to community members and organizations as well as taking our students out into the community. Our goal is to create a safe and welcoming, high-achieving school. We focus on four pillars 1) Integrated Student Support 2) Extended Learning Opportunities 3) Family and Community Engagements and 4) Collaborative Leadership and practices.
Community schools are designed to support learning and prioritize the well-being of children and adults by tapping into the strengths of families and community partners to provide resources, opportunities, and supports to advance the learning and healthy development of the overall community. Community schools deliver mental and physical health care, nutrition, social services, and learning supports with the goal of improving academic achievement. Community schools utilize collaborative leadership and are focused on building relationships, supporting the whole child, and making learning relevant and rigorous. We take a shared leadership approach to education.
Please join us at our next Community Schools Advisory Council taking place on Thursday, December 7 from 4:30-5:30 PM and be a part of our community.
College and Career Tech
Murray High School is happy to welcome Ian Brant as our new College and Career Tech. Ian believes strongly in education. He sees education as the key to opportunities and success in life and wants to be able to offer that to MGM students. In this new role, Ian is excited to help students on their journey to discovering a career path that will be both enjoyable and fulfilling. He is currently working on organizing field trips for students to local colleges and getting guest speakers onto our campus so that students can get a view into what is possible. Ian is looking forward to graduation and seeing all the students he's worked with reach their goal of graduation.
For help with colleges, trade schools, finding a job, exploring a career, résumé writing, or anything else related to college and career Ian can be found in room 204 from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm & can be reached at (760) 631-2502 ext. 89214
