If a situation doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. See/hear something, say something.
Call Campus Security ASAP to have them come over to be present and take care of the situation.
If you do not want to alert the person that you are calling Campus Security
There is a Panic Button located on the phone that you can push that will alert Campus Security to come to your area.
Tell the person, "Let me call my supervisor." When someone from Campus Security picks up, you can say something like "I have a student here who has a concern and I was wondering if you could come to the (Your Location) to assist them?"
You can tell them, "Let me go get someone who can answer your questions for you." Leave the desk, go to the Administration Area and close the door behind you, and call Campus Security.
If there are two people at the Welcome Desk. If the situation seems questionable, the staff member not interacting with the person should call Campus Security and say "I have a student here who has a concern and I was wondering if you could come to the Welcome Desk to assist them."
If the person tries to leave campus
Let them go.
Write down a description of the person and the time of the incident so Campus Security can go back to the cameras to find them.
If the Situation Intensifies
Escape to a safe place. It's ok to just leave.
Welcome Desk - If you can get to the Administration Area, go there and close the door behind you and call Campus Security ASAP. If you can't reach the Administration Area, go into the bathroom behind the Welcome Desk. Be sure to have your cell phone to get in touch with Campus Security. You can also go to the Call Center where you can shut the door behind you and use the phones there.
Types of Situations that You Want to Call Campus Security About
If a student says something threatening to another student, staff, or faculty member. Even if you feel like it is just a random statement or a statement out of frustration or anger, it is important to report it.
If a student is disgruntled and does not seem to be calming down.
Pay attention to the environment around you. If you hear something at the Cashier's Desk or someone's office, give Campus Security a call.
Student of Concern Report
Do a student of concern report so the incident is on file in case something similar happens again. There is a link to this form on every computer's Desktop.
