Bilingual Appointments

SCHEDULING ACADEMIC ADVISING FOR BILINGUAL STUDENTS

*We highly encourage staff to utilize free translation tools to communicate with students from all cultural and  linguistic backgrounds. Translation tools (e.g. Google Translate) have built-in Text-to-Speech features that will read  aloud any information you would like to communicate to students in their preferred language.*

1. Upon applying to FRCC, students may not have the option to indicate a preference for a Spanish- speaking Academic Advisor. Spanish-speaking students may initially be assigned to any Academic Advisor in their CAC, who may not be bilingual.

2. However, students can request to meet a Bilingual Academic Advisor in-person for an initial appointment at their preferred campus, even if the Bilingual Academic Advisor at their preferred campus is outside of their CAC.

3. After meeting with a Bilingual Academic Advisor outside their CAC, they will be encouraged to meet with their CAC Bilingual Academic Advisor remotely if they are located at a different campus.

Note: During Peak Drop-Ins, Bilingual students can be added to the Drop-in Advising queue, rather than the Academic Advising en Español Appointment queue. In the comments, schedulers can indicate if a student prefers a Bilingual Academic Advisor.

BILINGUAL ACADEMIC ADVISORS BY CAC AND CAMPUS:

ECE EN ESPAÑOL PROGRAMS (EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION):

FRCC currently offers 2 certificates taught in Spanish

• Early Childhood Director Certificate

• Early Childhood Assistant Certificate

*All Bilingual Academic Advisors advise for these two ECE certificates, regardless of CAC

MACT & EXPLORING:

• MACT & Exploring do not have designated Bilingual Academic Advisors

• Spanish-speaking MACT or Exploring students can meet with a Bilingual Academic Advisor outside of their CAC.

• Bilingual Academic Advisors can collaborate with a MACT or Exploring academic advisor to provide guidance.
