Rain for new earthworks

Post date: Dec 5, 2015

After 77mm or so of rain last week (and 50mm in roughly an hour), the earthworks were 'tested'. Happy to report the house dam is about a third full and yesterday I inoculated it with some 'muck' from a local stream. Definitely some baby yabbies in there and even a fish or two... to kickstart the biology. Also added some ceramic pipes for yabbies to live in. The pond by the caravan filled and so did the dam near the gate. It leaked as expected but slowly.. Will be possible to pump it up to top up the house dam. All good so far. We are adding a bag of bentonite a day to the pond to try and seal it. Once successful we will be looking for as many edibles as we can find to grow.
