Planting legume trees

Post date: Aug 12, 2015

Planting legumes recently after 3 day visit at Mole Station Native Nursery last week :) Native plantings to follow soon too.

Interplanting legumes between fruit and nut trees is important in terms of long term fertility. The legumes fix nitrogen and when chopped and dropped, they feed the soil which feeds your productive trees. We were fortunate that some friends gave us a heap of spent mushroom bags, so have inoculated the mulch layer with these. All trees prefer a more fungal dominated soil. We may get bonus shiitake or oyster mushrooms if/when the conditions are right!
