Reported Cases of Babesiosis

CDC Reported Cases of Babesia- By State & Year- Rate & Numbers

After reviewing the list linked below, if you would like to contact your local and/or state health department (CDC, etc.) and ask why Babesiosis isn’t reportable in your state, or when will it be, or whatever, please do.

If doctors don’t know to look for it, they won’t find it.

High Number of Babesia Infected Wild Animals in Pennsylvania

BUT, Babesiosis is still not a reportable disease in PA (and some other states too)! Pennsylvania has been shown to have one of the highest, if not the highest number of reported cases of Lyme disease in the country each year. In this new study below they found Babesia was more often detected (than Lyme disease) when testing 6 species of small mammals, and Babesia was found more often in voles than white-footed mice. Dr. Virginia Sherr's article calling for Babesia to be reportable

About 15 years ago, Dr. Virginia Sherr (PA LLMD) published an article about the problems of not reporting Babesiosis in Pennsylvania (and elsewhere). She called for mandatory reporting and provided some very good background and medical information in that same study. Her pleas for help in recognizing and counting cases were ignored by government officials. A link to her study...
