OTHER STATES LISTINGS

Volunteers spend countless hours each year on tick borne disease awareness efforts in communities across the state. Volunteers donate their time researching, writing articles, organizing and presenting programs, and supporting those who are ill.

Some groups sponsor meetings (M) that are open to the public and others assist with special events. All volunteers play an important role in educating the public and health care professionals.

Unfortunately, many of our volunteers have first-hand experience with Lyme and tick borne diseases and many have experienced the pain in their own children's eyes as they suffered. Yet, their main goal remains to educate the community to help prevent others from suffering.

Maryland has some of the most active and longest running support groups and patient advocates in the country, with many volunteers dedicating more than 20 years of their life to helping Maryland residents.

Most of the educational efforts are self-funded or are supported by small fund raising events and occasional donations from local residents.

Two of our groups, the Harford County Lyme Disease Support Group, Inc. (retired) and the Mid-Shore Lyme Disease Association, Inc. in Easton, Maryland, are incorporated as non-profits and are affiliated with the national Lyme Disease Association.
