John 3:11-15
You People
11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”
Isaiah 40:22
Earth's People
22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
In John chapter three, Jesus is explaining some deep heavenly thinking and knowledge of heaven to a Pharisee named Nicodemus...It is very hard to understand things that we have to imagine and not have seen or experienced, or never read about...Jesus has earlier tried to explain the wind to Nicodemus, where it comes from and where it is going, but he does not understand...Nor does Nicodemus understand the things that Jesus speaks of -even though Jesus knows things these things and has seen these hard to understand things...Still we on earth find it hard to accept His testimony, even though it is the truth...It seems, we as man, still today, know more about the things on and of this earth, than things that are above the circle of the earth, and are out in space and in the deep universe...We are still limited in knowledge, about the total knowledge of things in the entire universe...
Jesus makes it clear that no one has ever gone into heaven, except the One who came from heaven...That One, who has been in heaven, is the Son of Man...Jesus is signifying Himself as the Son of Man...There is a distinction of those who come from heaven, and those who come from earth...The One who comes from above, from heaven, is much, much, infinitely smarter than us who come from earth...We know earthly things, that we have learned...Jesus understands, both the earth things, and the heavenly things..
The prophet Isaiah says God sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and the earthly people are like grasshoppers...When man compare themselves to grasshoppers, we think we are pretty intelligent, and way above the grasshopper in knowledge and wisdom...Both man and grasshoppers are finite creatures...When we compare our finite selves to God, I think we forget that we are finite, and He is infinite...The grasshopper may better relate to us in knowledge than we relate to God in His infinite wisdom...Man can better relate and understand finite things than (we understand) infinite things...If God never wanted to reveal Himself, we would have never seen Him...We can only know a slice of God, a very small finite slice...For man to know about God, He must take the initiative...He could always stayed hidden, if He had wanted to...
But God reveal Himself...He reveals Himself in the Bible, and also in Nature...He created us and made us in His image...He revealed Himself to Moses and the prophets...Later He sent His Son and we get to know Him through the gospels...God wants us to know Him but we are limited, like the grasshopper in knowing man, in what we can know about Him...We think we know a lot and are very knowledgeable, but I think we think this way, because of our pride...We don't want to say we are limited, we are lacking, we are in a sense stupid about the heavenly and universal things...We do not want to think we are stupid in anything...
But just because we are lacking in our knowledge, does not change the truths we know...God opened us to us...The Bible is our roadway to Him...Nature shows His work...God enters into us, with the Holy Spirit...Jesus is our gate to God...When One much smarter (and who is the Truth) than us tells us the truth, it is the truth...He tells us that like Moses was lifted up the snake in the desert, Jesus would be raised from the dead, and overcome earthly death...Jesus would overcome the world...If we believe this truth, than we will have eternal life...
