John 3:1-15
Jesus Teaches Nicodemus about Death
1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.
10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”
John 14:1-4
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Proverbs 3:5-7
Trust in the Lord
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.
Jesus knows all about the eternities and all about heaven, and has great knowledge of His Father, God...So, when Jesus was talking with Nicodemus and trying to answer his questions about God and heaven, and being reborn, we can see that Nicodemus (like a lot of us) did not understand all of what Jesus was talking about...
We as men want to understand the Divine and the eternities, but we struggle with these subjects...So we must trust God and to also trust in Jesus...Jesus did not give Nicodemus, of course, any wrong answers but spoke the Truth...And I believe Jesus intent was not to confuse Nicodemus, in the answers He was giving Nicodemus, but to help him in understanding what being reborn meant...And maybe the best we as men can get out of conversations like this and in studying these things is just to find comfort and peace in what Jesus was telling his friend Nicodemus...And to lean on the understanding of God and Jesus in these situations...So let us believe in God, and believe also in Jesus...
