John 16:25-33
In This World You Will Have Troubles
25 “Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my
name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27 No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from
the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”
29 Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. 30 Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone
ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.”
31 “Do you now believe?” Jesus replied. 32 “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for
my Father is with me.
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Before Jesus was arrested He talked to His Disciples in a figuratively way...He told them the importance of love, and how His Father LOVED them because they truly loved Him...Jesus would be leaving this world and be going back to God's Kingdom...It was a very troubling time for His Disciples, yet He told them that He had told them these things so that they may have peace...He added that in this world you will have trouble...But take heart!...I have overcome the world...
Like each of Jesus' Disciples facing troubles, we too face troubles in this world...Today's world still seems to be a troubled one, and maybe worse than it has been in the past...News headlines on a daily basis are more and more troubling, when we compare it to the past days of years past...To help in these times of troubles we need to love each other and to help each other, more and more...Part of our problem causing these troubles are that we are becoming more selfish...We think more of ourselves than we do of others...We must remember that Jesus LOVES us...
Pope Francis says, "We have observed that, in society and the world in which we live, selfishness has increased more than love for others, and that men of good will must work, each with his own strengths and expertise, to ensure that love for others increases until it is equal and possibly exceeds love for oneself."..."We have the huge responsibility of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen, enlivened by the breath of the Spirit of LOVE...For it is this LOVE alone that possesses the power to attract and change the human heart.”...
