John 14:6
Jesus Says I AM Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 1:14
Jesus is Full of Grace and Truth
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 18:28-40
Jesus on Trial
28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”
30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.”
31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”
“But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected. 32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.
33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?”
40 They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!” Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.
Mark 14:60-62
Jesus Tells Us He is the Son of the Blessed One
60 Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" 61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.
Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"
62 "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
John 16:12-15
The Holy Spirit Guides Us to All Truth
12 "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
When I was young I thought truth was facts or a set of facts...And as with any of set of facts, I believed that truth was clear...I thought truths were definitive...Now I question what Truth is...As I have gotten older, Truth is not as clear as it once was...I might even say as read and reread the Bible, Truth has become somewhat more mysterious, than it has in being clearer...Truth, for me, has gotten to become more personal over time and over the years...
When Pilate ask Jesus "What is Truth?", it was a very good question...And in the middle of Jesus' trial, the Trial of Truth, Pilate asks Him, if He is King of the Jews...Jesus answers Pilate in a personal way, and wants to know if that personally came from him (Pilate), or did someone else want him to ask that...Truth gets personal...And that is not so hard to believe if you believe who Jesus is and that He is full of Grace and Truth...And from the Person to the Personal, Truth became flesh and dwelt on the earth...Because Jesus is a Person...And because it takes faith to believe in Him, one might say that it takes faith to believe in the Truth (if Jesus is Truth)...But each of us have to decide to believe in Him, which makes Him very Personal, if one believes...Non-believers might say that Truth is not personal, because they do not accept Him as the Truth, and do not relate to Him as the Absolute Truth of Universal Things...Because Jesus testifies to the Truth, He wants us to discover the Truth...
Now I believe that Truth is a Way...I believe that Truth is more like a Path...Truth is not what the majority believes in, or what everyone in the crowd believes...When Jesus was on trial, the large majority of the crowd reached the wrong verdict, and missed the Truth...Truth is close to what one believes...Yet, Truth is not totally what one believes, because I could accidentally believe in a lie or a falsehood...so I can believe in different things or whatever I want (for that matter), but everything I believe in is not the Truth...I also believe, Truth is related to faith...And oddly enough Truth holds some mystery to it...So it is not always clear...Truth by its very nature is narrow and exclusive...When ask by the high priest, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"...Jesus' answer could only be one of two answers..."I AM," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."...So when Jesus says He is the only Way to God, I can believe that is the Truth...And I also believe that a Spirit guides the heart and the mind towards Truth, and that Truth is good for the soul...
