Private and social notes are no longer attached to every paragraph. They are only attached to each page element.
When uploading a page of text think about where you would like the students to reflect or discuss content in context. Breaking long passages of text up into logical blocks may be necessary to provide students with multiple opportunities to create private or social notes.
For each page element e.g. text box or image, students can enter two types of notes:
Students can add either type of note by clicking the note button under each page element. This gives them the choice to add a private or social note.
If a private or social note has been added the note button will be highlighted with a green dot as shown below.
Notes button showing that there are notes available
Students can toggle between their private notes and social notes by clicking the appropriate icon.
A private study note. Notice the green dots indicating that there are both private and social notes for this text element.
A social note.
Social notes are another area where students may discuss content in context. Social notes sit alongside learners’ private study notes, are available by default, and don’t need to be set up by the course author.
Example of social notes.
There can be multiple social notes attached to any page element (for example, atext box, image, or activity).
Social notes don’t have the Reply or Like functionality of discussions and are presented as a single thread.
