Split deliveries

What is a split delivery?

A split delivery is when a course is incomplete and the first part of the course is offered with the remaining modules added at a later stage using the ability to edit an active course.

Split delivery process

1) While Building the course

• create module shells for all modules in the course. NOTE: Modules and Topics must have a least one unit (this can be empty) to allow publishing.
• create assessment shells (name, type, weighting) for all assessments. If possible, upload all assessments with first split
• complete all quizzes (practice and assessed) and place in module (or module shell) before publishing first split. It’s not possible to add quizzes after initial publish.

2) When publishing the first split

• inform Course Offering Admin (COA) which modules are part of the first split, and which will be part of the second split
• inform COA on what date second split will go to students

3) In Manage, COA will

• make first split available to students at start of tri/block
• create a date-gate for the modules of the second split. When that date is reached, the modules will automatically become available to students. Until that date, the modules will be greyed out, with the hover text “To be unlocked on DATE”. This is why we need to create shells for all modules and inform COA of intended dates

4) After publishing the first split,

1. go back to course in iQ and click EDIT. You can now populate the remaining modules in the live course, meaning there’s no risk of students losing study note etc. (unlike the old split delivery system). WARNING: you will be working in a live environment, don’t change anything in the modules that are already complete
2. when finished, hit publish again. The added material will become available to students when the gate-date is reached. You can publish/edit multiple times if you prefer to do one module at a time and publish between, it won’t affect when students can access the material
3. if for any reason the date you initially gave COA for the second split to go live changes, you must let COA know so they can enter the new date in Manage. The date entered is when the material goes live to students, whether it’s finished or not.
