Course elements

When creating or editing a course, the first level of detail will be at the course level (the name of the course, course overview, and so on).

The course elements page, shown below, will be the first page you’re presented with after creating a new course or selecting a course to edit from the Create tab.

A brief description of each menu item is provided below.

• Name: The name of the course.
• Content: This section allows you to structure your course by creating modules, topics and units.
• Study Plan: This section allows the uploading or creation of a study plan
• Trailer: Almost all Open Polytechnic courses have an introductory video. This is where they are linked.
• Cover photo: The cover image for the course.
• Resources: This is where you can upload resources (files) for students such as readings.
• Assessment items: This is where individual assessment details and resources are uploaded and given percentages.
• Assessment description: This area provides an overall description of the assessment for the course.
• Goals: The learning outcomes for the course, taken from the course descriptor.
• Overview: This area contains the introduction to the course and also information about the course such as the course language and category.
• Glossary: Glossary items are entered here.
• Collaborators: Here a builder of the course can add other collaborators as either reviewers or builders
• Publish: The big, scary button you select after all your hard work to publish your course (or publish updates if editing a live course).

Navigate

To navigate through the elements you can either use the menu items along the side, select the green down or up buttons, or simply scroll using your mouse wheel.

Saving changes

Saving on the Course elements page is somewhat non-intuitive and requires either selecting a new menu item or selecting the down arrow at the bottom of the section.
