Drama Club is going on now!

You may ask, “When and where do they meet? What do they do?”

They meet on Tuesdays at 5:30 PM and Thursdays at 7:00 PM.

Drama Club usually meets in Galileo's auditorium but because of Covid-19 mandates, Drama Club is currently taking place in Mrs. Goodwin-Wittry’s WebEx. Don’t worry, it's still the same as it is in the auditorium, with theater games and skits, only it is behind a screen.

If you want to get a chance to use your imagination and to have fun, now's your chance! Drama Club is always available for those of you who want to attend, just make sure you check with your parents, and sign up with Mrs. Goodwin-Wittry (also known as Mrs. G).

Drama Club became a thing because it provides a chance to let kids have their own break. It releases them from any stress they previously had built up before they enter the club. Kids have their own chance to show their own creativity and imagination.

Before the Drama Club started, Mrs. G had inspiration and help along the way. Mr Taylor was Mrs. G’s middle school director, and was the first to give her a chance to enhance her own creativity and imagination. This led to her inspiration to start her own club later in the future.

Ten years ago, Galileo did not have a Drama Club. Students went to the principal and asked to start a club. Mrs. Colbert, the principal back then, went to Mrs. G, knowing that she had a background in theater, and asked her if she would start a club. Mr. Watts, our library tech at the time, helped Mrs. G start our Drama Club. The original members would produce their first play a few months later.

Since then, we have an amazing Drama Club that is always open for those who would like to have their own fresh experience to express themselves!

I did get a few different perspectives on Drama Club from The Officers of Drama Club! You may ask, “Officers?” Well, Officers are student leaders that help Mrs. G and members a LOT in Drama Club. Officers are a new addition to the club this year, and include roles of President (Emily O.), Vice President (Genesis D.), Secretary (Julianna C.), Historian (Domingo C.), and Cheermeister (Willoh M.). They help plan and run the after school meetings.

They said that Drama Club basically pulls you out of your comfort zone. It lets you set yourself free. You have a chance to make new friends and a new imagination.

Officer, Julianna C, mentioned how “shy and scared” she was before joining the club. She was really motivated to meet new people.

Drama club gives students their own chance to express their feelings and what goes on inside of their head. Drama Club has about 65 people rostered (a lot right?) and about 20-25 members attend a given meeting.

If you weren’t sure of joining, or not attending Drama Club then you should be now!

Drama Club is still accepting members. Please contact Mrs. Goodwin-Wittry to join..
