Tournament: Carla D.R. Perspective for A-squad

For Carla, the tournament was fun and exciting. They played against Sabin.

“It was really stressful because Sabin had some really good players and strategies.”

Additionally she stated, “It was also nerve racking because our games were posted live online where people are watching us and every mistake we make.”

But overall, Carla enjoyed practices where she learned new techniques with her team members.

She also said that, “the season was fun, but it was not as exciting because of Covid. It ruined it because we didn’t talk as much, and because we weren’t talking as much there were crashes that happened because of that.”

B-Squad

B- squad has played against West, Sabin, Russel, Swigert, and Holmes. They beat Sabin and Swigert. The coach for B- squad was Ms. McFann.

Tournament: Aaliyah V. Perspective for B-squad

For Aaliyah, the tournament was exciting and intense. They played against Holmes because they could not play against Jenkins due to quarantines.

“It was very hard because they were very good at offense and serving.”

She also said that “we fought harder in our games and communicated more to get into the tournament. When we lost the tournament, we felt like we won and cheered up the other players on the team.”

She also liked that people were able to watch their game online. What she really liked about practices was that the teams on Galileo got to go against each other.

Ms. McFann’s Perspective of Girls’ Volleyball

The hardest thing Ms. McFann had to do was take extra precautions because of the pandemic.

“The teams already had a super limited amount of time to practice and prepare for games. It takes time to learn a sport, and it takes time to learn how to work together as a team. Had we had more time together I would have been able to spend more intentional time teaching my team the ins and outs of volleyball!”

She was most scared of her players reaction to success and defeat. She also said that she tried not to get discouraged too fast and that the best thing she could do was keep a positive culture among the team.

“I really try to make sure that all of my players understand the importance of lifting each other up and shaking off mistakes so that they can move forward.”

She was so grateful that Galileo could have a season of girls’ volleyball. Even though she was not looking forward to all the safety measures and new things, in the end it was totally worth it.

“I have been so impressed with the girls’ ability to learn so quickly and support each other! It makes me so proud to watch my team learn and grow and pump each other up! They worked so hard, and I am so proud of them! I loved being their coach! I also love getting to be a part of fostering a love for volleyball in my players!”

Great work girls’ volleyball for your hard work and great season! Thank you coaches for your hard work coaching them and all your effort.
