Galileo has four new teachers, Mr. Peterson, our band and orchestra teacher, Mrs. Moreno, who teaches 6th grade social studies, Mrs. Hagel, our 7th and 8th grade math teacher, and Mr. Payne, a 6th grade regular math and intervention teacher.
A More Detailed Look at Mr. Peterson
Mr. Peterson graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder, which is 10 minutes from Denver, and was looking for a job. After reaching out to many schools, Galileo finally accepted his request and he started teaching at Galileo School of Math and Science.
Mr. Peterson described teaching both Band and Orchestra as it gives him more energy than coffee. He explained how the staff are super supportive and constantly check up on him whenever they pass his classroom.
Mrs. Moreno and Galileo
Moving on to our other teacher that is also new to Galileo, Mrs. Moreno. Mrs. Moreno was a teacher at Chemawa in Riverside County, found in the south side of California. The only reason she left was because her husband got a job here in Colorado Springs at UC Health.
With both her parents being teachers, Mrs. Moreno knew she wanted to be a teacher as far back as she could remember. She has been teaching for 15 years and plans to continue doing so for years to come. Mrs. Moreno was drawn to Galileo because of its diversity of students. Once actually getting into Galileo, she said that the students are amazing, and that the staff are immensely helpful and supportive.
Options on Covid-19
Mrs. Moreno stated the following, “Coming into this Covid-19 situation was hard, but we can get through it all together. I look forward to teaching and learning, from students and staff.”
Mr. Peterson also shared his thoughts on the Covid-19 situation, he talked about how the kids were awesome because of how they can overcome these challenging times. “I can’t imagine being a kid during this,” he said.
