Coming in January: Diversity Club

Starting in January, there is a new club being held in Galileo, and it is called Diversity Club!

Diversity Club is a place where those in the LGBTQ+ community, BLM activists, and their allies can come together to celebrate everyone's diversity.

Ms. Propsom, a math teacher and volleyball coach, created the club because students wanted a place where they could be themselves. She envisions that all students can be accepted in the club without being judged.

"It would be a judgement free zone where (members) could be themselves without ridicule." - perspective members

She came up with the idea with students in her classroom last year. Ms. Propsom knew she wanted to include all kids, but couldn’t think of a name. She talked to Mrs. Goodwin-Wittry, the teacher in the room next door, and they came up with the name together. Mrs. G thought it would be a nice name because it celebrates everyone's differences.

Lily is a 7^th grader and Janah is an 8^th grader at Galileo are interested in Diversity Club. They both stated that it would be a judgement free zone where they could be themselves without ridicule.

Chenelle, an 7^th grader, who is also interested in joining, said she had become interested in diversity club because, "It would be a place where people who are coming out, would be in a safe talking environment.”

Also, in my perspective on Diversity Club is that I think we could use more clubs like this. I also think it would be nice to have more clubs where they would and, will not judge you on what you like or believe in.
