Coming in January: Diversity Club

Starting in January, there is a new club being held in Galileo, and it is called Diversity Club!

Diversity Club is a place where those in the LGBTQ+ community, BLM activists, and their allies can come together to celebrate everyone's diversity.

Ms. Propsom, a math teacher and volleyball coach, created the club because students wanted a place where they could be themselves. She envisions that all students can be accepted in the club without being judged.

"It would be a judgement free zone where (members) could be themselves without ridicule." - perspective members

She came up with the idea with students in her classroom last year. Ms. Propsom knew she wanted to include all kids, but couldn’t think of a name. She talked to Mrs. Goodwin-Wittry, the teacher in the room next door, and they came up with the name together. Mrs. G thought it would be a nice name because it celebrates everyone's differences.

Lily is a 7th grader and Janah is an 8th grader at Galileo are interested in Diversity Club. They both stated that it would be a judgement free zone where they could be themselves without ridicule.

Chenelle, an 7th grader, who is also interested in joining, said she had become interested in diversity club because, "It would be a place where people who are coming out, would be in a safe talking environment.”

Also, in my perspective on Diversity Club is that I think we could use more clubs like this. I also think it would be nice to have more clubs where they would and, will not judge you on what you like or believe in.
