Hamilton-Is it Worth the Watch?

By: Sophie M. and Taylor S.

Hamilton is a hit Broadway musical that describes the life of Alexander Hamilton, an American Revolutionary, Statesman, and Founding Father. The musical was written by songwriter and filmmaker Lin-Manuel Miranda, who not only wrote the musical script but also composed the music for it and is the actor for the main lead- Hamilton himself. Lin-Manuel Miranda tells the story of Hamilton's life through rap and R&B songs. It’s a fun musical that can easily pique the interest of some, but if you don’t like this type of thing then it is not for you.

Despite the fun music and enjoyable story it tells, not all the musical is historically accurate. Although in its defense, it's clear from the start that Miranda is not aiming for historical accuracy. For starters, the show gives the illusion that Thomas Jefferson spent the revolutionary war in Paris, whereas he spent it as governor of Virginia. The musical also greatly exaggerates some relationships Hamilton had with people. Those are just a few, though. There are many other historical inaccuracies within the musical.

So, is Hamilton worth the watch? Well, if you're into that sort of thing, and are not looking for anything historically correct, then you would enjoy it! However, if you're not into or are looking for something factually correct to Hamilton's life, this probably is not for you.
