The Covid vaccine is here! Teachers are being vaccinated; Does this mean everything will go back to normal? What are the side effects? Do you have a choice if you want the vaccine? Where can you go to get vaccinated? What about the fees? Why are teachers be able to get the vaccine before everyone else?

The vaccine is a series of two shots taken over three weeks. Teachers can get vaccinated by setting up an appointment online. Many have been vaccinated at the UC Health Administration building. They do not have to pay any fees for the vaccine because it is government funded.

Since the Covid vaccines have been released, the cases of Covid have gone down a little. So I guess we can say that is progress with us trying to get back to normal. Teachers are getting the vaccine before everyone else because the public wants schools to open faster, and to keep everyone safe doing so.

To Vaccinate or Not?

Some of the teachers at Galileo Middle School have already been vaccinated, and some of them have not been vaccinated. Why? You may ask, well it is completely your choice if you want to take the vaccine.

Some teachers are choosing not to get the vaccine because they do not know the long-term effects, while others want to give others the opportunity to get it first.

Other teachers are getting vaccinated to protect themselves and others, as well as the hope that we can get back to school faster.

One of the teachers at Galileo stated she is very nervous to get the second vaccine because she had heard from other people that the side effects can make you feel very sick for a few days.

Side Effects?

My source said that after the first vaccine, most teachers had a slightly sore arm for a few days. One said they got minor chills on the first night. Another side effect that people are having is colors pop out more than usual. By that I mean, you know how when you are crying and then you look up to see light and there is kind of a glare and it is blurry? Yeah, so basically like that, but that is not very common.

Even if you do not have side effects on your first dose, you can get more severe ones on your second dose which may include severe body aches and headaches.

Flu Shot Comparison

The flu shot and the Covid vaccine are different in many ways. The Covid vaccine works way differently than the flu shot. From, what I´ve heard the Covid vaccine has more side effects. One of my sources says that they noticed when they got the vaccine their arm was a lot sorer than when getting the flu shot. The Covid vaccine has a higher effectiveness than when you get the flu shot.

In conclusion, the vaccine is here! We still do not know a lot of its long term side effects but hopefully this helps in getting things back to normal soon, such as going back to school and being happy again. In the meantime, remember to stay safe and continue to wear your masks!
