Reason for the Contest

Galileo’s attendance contest was made to improve overall attendance. The contest consists of winning rewards for being on time for school and or having perfect attendance. The contest's purpose was to try and get students to attend school regularly.

Developers

The Galileo attendance team consists of faculty and staff at Galileo School of Math and Science from each grade level. These eight staff members decided to put this contest together to improve overall attendance.

They were optimistic that the contest would be successful because of past contests results have been favorable. However, they have never generated a contest with so many online students before.

Although many teachers were supportive, some teachers were not because they believe that students should have that motivation inside of themselves and not through prizes. Those who are opposed also believed that giving external motivation is not a good idea.

Contest Rules

  • You must be present and on time for every class in a given week.

Prizes

Here are some of the amazing prizes:

  • Vinyl stickers- students love stickers

  • Candy- who can go wrong with candy.

  • Chips- students like chips for a little snack during the day

  • Ring pops- an extremely popular prize

  • Extra mask break- for those in-person

  • Assignment passes- to be used in any class at the teacher's discretion

Results:

According our Dean of Students, Mrs. VanBemden, “I would have students email me and ask what and when their next prize would be.

The contest turned out successful, due to because many students follow through with the contest. The in-person students attendance improved by 10%; however, the online students had only a small increase.

The contest ended 3rd quarter.
