General Controls

Your animal can be controlled with your mouse or touchpad (on a computer) or with a joystick (on mobile). Your animal will always point towards your cursor or in the direction of the joystick (with some exceptions).

You can use an animal ability with the space key (on a computer), or with the “Boost” button (on mobile). Some animal abilities can be charged up by holding the space key or “Boost” button, and have stronger effects when the space key or “Boost” button is released. You can see your boost bars at the bottom of your screen.

Eating

To eat food, simply move your animal towards it. When your animal is on the food, it will absorb the food. Different foods can be eaten by different animals.

After eating meat or parts of a shell or carcass, your animal will spit out bones that shows have eaten those things.

Walking

Some animals can walk on islands, glaciers, dams, and lilypads.

Boosting when walking will make your animal damage other animals in a certain direction, depending on which direction the cursor or joystick is pointing in.

Attack on land

While walking, charging a boost will make the animal jump. The longer the charge, the higher the jump.* The following animals can walk on islands, glaciers, dams, and lilypads:

  • Crab

  • King Crab

  • Crayfish

  • Climbing Cavefish*

  • Horseshoe Crab

  • Olm

  • Frog

  • Little Auk

  • Axolotl

  • Seagull

  • Duck

  • Bat*

  • Seal

  • Pelican

  • Lobster

  • Goliath Bullfrog

  • Frogfish

  • Beaver

  • Sea Otter

  • Penguin

  • Snake

  • Octopus

  • Snapping Turtle

  • Sea Lion

  • Giant Salamander

  • Leopard Seal

  • Coconut Crab

  • Japanese Spider Crab*

  • Crocodile

  • Hippo

  • Eagle

  • Anaconda

  • Alligator Snapping Turtle

  • Giant Softshell Turtle

  • Polar Bear

  • Elephant Seal

  • Walrus

The following animals can also walk on the seafloor***:

  • Crab

  • King Crab

  • Frogfish

  • Coconut Crab

  • Japanese Spider Crab

Note: While walking on the seafloor, non-walking animals can damage you faster than you can damage them. While walking on islands, glaciers, dams, and lilypads, you can damage non-walking animals faster than they can damage you.

Airboosting

Airboosting is a risky technique used to make a fast getaway. To airboost, swim upwards to the surface, then boost in midair. Your animal will soar through the air in the direction that you boosted in. But be careful! If you hit an animal in midair, you will immediately fall down! If you have no boost bars filled or if you can't boost, trying to boost in midair will make your animal jump forward a small distance in the air. You can use this to outmaneuver your opponents. The following animals CANNOT airboost:

  • Worm

  • Horseshoe Crab

  • Olm

  • Little Auk****

  • Seagull****

  • Duck****

  • Bat****

  • Pelican****

  • Manatee

  • Whale Shark

  • Hippo

  • Eagle****

  • Polar Bear

  • Walrus

  • Cachalot

  • Whale

  • Humpback Whale

*To jump with coconut crab and Japanese spider crab, you must release your boost before it is fully charged. Otherwise, you will use your ability in the direction your cursor or joystick is pointing in, using a boost bar, and you will not jump.

**These animals can walk on ceilings (climbing cavefish must use its ability).

***These animals can also boost without boost bars! However, they will be much less powerful and will not cover as much distance as normal boosts. They can be used for an extra burst of speed in dangerous situations.

****These animals cannot airboost, but they can fly (which is even better).
