Good morning students, it's nice to see you again. In this chapter, we will learn about "How to Offer a Service and It's Responses". Please check the video out before we go further.
We can conclude some points from the video above about How to Offer a Service and It's Responses.
There are different ways how you can offer help or service to other people, usually we can use a verb:
Can, for example : - Hello, can I help you?
-Is there anything else I can do for you?
You can offer a help or service in the form of a question.
For example: a. Can I give you a hand?
b. Can I be of any help (to you)?
Let, for example : Let me show you the place on Google Maps.
You can also use the verb let without to (bare infinitive).
For example: a. Let me show it to you.
b. Let me pay for the drinks.
c. Let me carry it for you.
Shall, for example : Shall I order a taxi for you? At what time?
If you make an offer help or service use the verb shall, you also need to make a question.
For example: a. Shall I carry your bag?
b. Shall I close the window?
Would like, for example : Ok. Would you like me to give you a wake-up call?
When you use would like, it needs to make a question too.
For example: a. Would you like a cup of coffee?
b. Would you like something to eat?
c. Would you like anything else?
You can offer to do something, in this case use the infinitive.
For example: a. Would you like me to help you?
b. Would you like me to make dinner?
c. Would you like me to wash-up?
RESPONSES.
Polite response.
a. Great! Thanks!
b. Thank you very much.
c. That would be nice.
Polite refusal.
a. No, I am fine. Thanks.
b. No, don't worry.
c. No, thank you very much.
We can offer a service or help in informal way. You just can use these expressions in verbal.
For example:
a. Let : Let me cook the dinner tonight.
b. Want: Do you want me to cook pasta?
c. Would like: Would you like me to cook pasta?
Responses can be in formal and informal way.
a. That would be great!
b. It is so sweet of you.
c. It is very kind of you.
