Scratchboard

I really wanted to make this project look as close to the reference photo as I could. I knew that I was going to be able to create a fairly realistic scratchboard drawing and so I really wanted to do the best that I could on it. I also really wanted to make sure that I didn't rip through the clear layer underneath the black ink because I knew that it would end up looking funky in the end.

The only resource used was the scratch board paper, and the scratchboard scraper tool that was given to us. I started with the lightest spots of the photo and worked my way to the darker spots adding less and less lines each time.

Having no past experience with scratchboard except for those little pieces that come with the wooden stick, I had no idea how my project would come out. I really thought that it would look really messy which is kind of what happened but I think it looks better than I had thought. I started with the water because I knew that that was going to be the easiest part of the picture, and I sort of put off the sky because I just knew I was going to mess it up and I really just didn't want to do it. I think that if I were to do this project again I might pick a different photo that has more contrast and a bigger difference between black and white.
