Hallucinogens at the Beach

Watercolor, marker, pen

18" x 24"

For this project, I wanted to take the idea of cohesion and stretch it to an idea of a messy, random, piece of art that works together. I wanted the end result to be colorful and something that will keep your eyes busy and entertained.

I used watercolor entirely for the background and splattered it with a paintbrush. I glued the ink-drawn images on top of the background and added watercolor and marker to add color to blend them into the background.

For all my work, I never know what I'm going to do, I never know what the final result is going to be. So with the splattering of the watercolor I wanted it to be random and crazy. I didn't know how I was going to make the drawings work together and I still didn't quite know until I was titling it. For blending the drawings into the background, I tried to match the colors in the background to the colors I used when coloring the pictures, which I found to be difficult and time-consuming for me.
