Art History Project

Isolated on a Rock

9" x 12"

watercolor, graphite, colored pencil, marker, ink on mixed media paper

The main focus I had for this project was to make it really colorful and reflect me. Obviously the assignment was to pick two artists and create a project inspired by them so I was adding factors of Vincent van Gogh's work and mine. I had forgot to be including Claude Monet into the piece but it was too far along to add anything.  I really just wanted to finish the project as soon as I could but I still wanted it to look nice and presentable.

I used a bunch of materials on this project. I started with the sketch in graphite and I started painting the clouds with watercolor paint. I also painted the water. I didn't love the way that the watercolor looked on the paper so I decided to go over the watercolor in colored pencil. I colored most of the piece in colored pencil  layering a bunch of different colors on each other. I used markers on the trees, clouds and the mountain.

This project was extremely difficult for me to do. It took me so long to figure out what I would even do for the project and staring at a blank piece of paper caused me to stress about it. I am not happy with the outcome of the piece, I think that I could've done a better job and working on the piece was hard because I didn't like the way it looked and it wasn't normally something I would do. I originally was going to color in the house but at the end I thought that it would look better if I left in uncolored. Overall I had no expectations for this piece of art and I think it turned out exactly how I imagined it.
